    ZF Transmission pan

I've run MaxLife in a number of transmissions from different manufacturers without issue. I checked with the folks at Valvoline prior to doing this ZF fluid swap and it's good to go. Meets ZF's spec. $28/gallon and I can pick it up locally.

Thanks for the report on the Dorman unit. I've read people's accounts, both good and bad about the Dorman unit. I've used a bunch of different Dorman parts over the years with mostly successful results. On my last fluid exchange I refilled with Valvoline MaxLife. That's been about 30k miles...

    ZF Transmission pan

For those running the HEMI. I'm running the 3.6L, so not an issue for me. That was good that PPE made that design consideration.

I will stay the course with OEM.

    ZF Transmission pan

After speaking to the dealer parts guy today, he says current offerings consist of two varieties. One with and one without. And basically, no clear rhyme or reason as to why one exists vs. the other. Seems like Mopar may have been phasing out the drain plug equipped option due to potential...

You must an old motorhead :) Sounds like something us old guys did back in the day.

    ZF Transmission pan

I agree with your comments. I did see that B&M makes an aluminum pan that has a bolted in (and serviceable) magnet assembly. Their unit uses a traditional cork composite gasket as it's mating surface is machined flat vs. OEM and others using a machined boss for a seal. I don't like their...

I didn't say anything about them being "the same quality". I'll continue logging miles on my "mistake" choice.

You say "flimsy", but I've yet to see or hear of one fail (outside of some random road debris incident that broke a pan). Those "flimsy" pans log millions of miles on millions of vehicles without incident.

For this particular part I prefer to use OEM, hence the reason I'm searching out a particular part number.

Looking at that link and that part number, it appears that is the part number that still has a drain. 52854834AB seems to be what most dealers are stocking, but that # does NOT have a drain plug. Thanks for the info. I running a 3.6 Pentastar, so no crossover exhaust pipe issues. The drain...

Thanks for the reply. I'd like to stay with the Mopar production, provided a drain plug equipped option exists.

    ZF Transmission pan

Hello All, Anybody know if there is a current production Mopar trans pan that has a drain plug? I went back and forth with several sources during my last fluid change trying to find a pan that was drain plug equipped. I had heard that Mopar discontinued the drain plug, but was told the one I...

Changed trans fluid- and a cautionary tale

Just "adding" for anybody looking for further info. I did a fluid/pan recently and used a Mopar unit. It did *NOT* come with pan bolts. I bought the Rein Automotive HWK0068 kit from Rock Auto. They are German made and seemed to be particularly well machined. No issues with them. Kit was...

    Salt sucks

+1 on lanolin. It smells like hell until it fully "cures". But given the nature of the product, it creeps really well and seals out moisture and oxygen (need both to rust). The creep being the key. It'll get into places that normal products won't. It's not permanent though. It'll require...
