For the guys who think deactivating the mds via a tune is a good idea

We’ve kinda beaten this horse to death on here. IMO when swapping cam and lifters go with an aftermarket billet cam from a reputable brand should be a must. After that oiling should be a moot point.

Low engine load is the caveat for me. Since I have an exhaust, its very discernable when my truck is in MDS and it certainly isn't all the time. Honestly anything more than a Spongebob big toe press of the gas pedal takes it out of MDS mode. Another way to look at it is bring up your fuel...

The main thing I see in keeping the mds solenoids in place like this, it keeps oil flow restricted to all your lifters compared to if you had the block off plates.

You'll probably get a better response posting in the v6 thread. Good luck https://www.ramforum.com/forums/v6-engine-performance.206/

It's a choice, what do you recommend

Redline if you’re willing to pay for it. I’ve run PUP, Redline, Mobil 1 FS & Lubeguard and just recently stumbled upon Valvoline Extended Protection High Mileage. Out of those purely by sound I’d rate them Redline > Valvoline > Mobil w/ LG > PUP. My truck had pup 5w20 with Fram XP10060 for...

In AZ we have to inspect for emissions and they don’t even pop the hood… most do obd2 or exhaust sniffer if old.

    Synthetic Oil

I meant Valvoline Extended protection oil. I agree on the purolator filter… IF the 820’s are gone obviously we’ll have to move on. I’m just surprised that Val Ext. Pro oil slipped my radar. It’s going to be so much simpler to be able to just keep 1 brand of oil now since my gf’s truck takes...

I dunno how I missed Valvoline Extended Protection 5w30’s UOA’s (300ppm moly). All of the ones I saw stayed in grade also for shear. On sale on Amazon 15qts $67.99 Valvoline Extended Protection 5w30 It’s what’s going in my truck this time. Still have some rp 20/820’s but once those are gone...

Cam Swap Heads Removal with out removing shorty Headers.

Yes it’s doable. I removed the heads with stock cast logs attached and reinstalled with afe shorties installed from the bench. Did it for this exact reason (f those bolts) and the afe headers made a nice grab handle while installing. Just remember to wipe them off with alcohol after to avoid...

True my brain automatically went to tubular. Cast is going to be turbulent regardless.

    Y PIPE

I mean from a fluid dynamics pov, as long as sizing of pipes is optimized, (I.e 2.25” Y’d into 3”… vs true dual 2.25”), velocity should remain similar, scavenging may be altered but not much that far down the line after the collectors… sound will be marginally different (less smooth) since each...
