    Synthetic Oil

Can't follow an analogy either. Sheer genius.

    sounds like a squeaky belt

I just replaced my belt. A Gates belt (std service) only cost $20 or so. Replaced the tensioner at the same time, only $35 or so. Rock Auto.

    Synthetic Oil

$hit Rick, and here I thought I had to change my diesel oil every 5 hours when it turns black.

    Synthetic Oil

It's not overkill for Hemi engines if you're educated about cam failures. You should do so and not express uninformed statements.

    Synthetic Oil

I think it was Gates that discussed some kind of galvanic corrosive affect from EPDM hose left in too long, coolant acted as electrolyte between EPDM and aluminum.

    Synthetic Oil

Yeah, they don't make for the 6.4 Hemi - completely different hose moldings, which is also why the big oil filters won't fit.

    Synthetic Oil

Speaking of which, I wonder when to replace hoses and belts these days? The eldest heard belt squeal at startup, threw a new belt and tensioner on @ 58,000 miles but 7-1/2 years old. Belt ribs were hard as a rock, but hadn't started cracking yet. Hose and belt rubber isn't exposed to sunlight...

    fuel additives and octane ?

I've wondered this myself. Here in Minnesota pump gas max. octane is 91.

yep.......i got all that stuff and the parts diagrams. And it was truly made in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA!

omg - so THAT's how Honda got the X-mulch blade idea! You'd best sue for idea infringement.

    Synthetic Oil

I read somewhere some years back the target lifespan for a Briggs engine today is 3 years. My Craftsman Briggs is 20 years old, my dad's Tiller Briggs is 41 years old. Yeah, it only gets used a couple hours a year, but at full load. I've only honed the cylinder (aluminum, not cast iron liner)...

    fuel additives and octane ?

Same here in agri-bribery Minnesota. Here it's not an ignorant tree-hugger thing, it's an actual state legal requirement by lobbyists given money to lawmakers. It sucks.

    fuel additives and octane ?

Red Line PL-1. It's easier to find than CRC and has higher % PEA so you use less. Easier to stock and haul around.

    fuel additives and octane ?

Yes. No. This is preventive maintenance for me. I don't let my equipment get boogered up, then try to fix it.

    fuel additives and octane ?

And............(dum, dum, tiss) there is no such thing as uniform 89 octane gas. It's a blend of 87 and 91. I use 91 top tier. Where top tier is rare, such as up here in the hinterlands, I carry a measure bottle of PEA with me and spike 1 ounce per 15 gallons gas (calculated dosage from mfg...

    Synthetic Oil

Briggs was great at pumping out millions (yes, millions) of little aluminum lawn mower engines every year until the world changed and Honda came ashore with OHV (gasp!) sleeved engines. And now...........electric, which seems a good fit for city lot mowers now that we have lithium power density...

    fuel additives and octane ?

Techron is no longer PEA - scroll up. Only Red Line PL-1 and CRC use PEA anymore. It's expensive. Remember that Techron was trademarked by Chevron, a huge corporation, who knows what their direction is anymore. In today's news, ConocoPhillips, which used to be separate corporations, want to...

Outsourced Chinese engine. Cummins forced Onan into this for home standby gensets, same as Generac. First prototype engines all cracked - blocks, heads, cranks. Wonderful. Race to the bottom continues.

    Synthetic Oil

Just did my engine oil change for summer, Red Line 5W-30 and Royal Purple 20-500. My engine used to clatter for a second or two on startup after oil change cause the oil filter is sideways on 6.4 truck engines. I fill the filter with oil and let it soak into the media, then pour it back into...

Took a look inside my hemi

Or keeping in a heated garage. Lots of these in Minnesota. People hear this and think we mean heated to room temperature. Not the case - we keep thermostat around 45 degrees, 6 feet up on a wall, to prevent freezing of various liquids stored in garages. Women store overage refrigerables on...

Mix the mid grade yourself and save?

I have. I worked for Mobil Oil, trained in refining and applications. Octane rating does cover a range of hydrocarbons, I simplified for the audience. It would help for a review of the scanner documentation provide some months back to understand this topic. Actual Hemi detonation data with...

Mix the mid grade yourself and save?

Oh - and the other benefit is the engine loses power more slowly as well. All engines lose power over time (after initial break-in) due to wear and deposits. Minimizing the rate of power loss over time is important for those of us that own long term.

Mix the mid grade yourself and save?

I can't tell you guys how much longer your engine will statistically last without long term durability studies Ram may or may not have conducted. Big manufacturers usually do, but won't share results. You may get 1 hour more run time, or 1,000 hours more run time, but your engine will have...
