I've always liked the Pentastars myself.
I had one in my Wrangler, my wife's Cherokee ( 3.2L) and her Grand Cherokee.
They were solid performers and I never had a lick of trouble with them.
Plus- easiest oil changes I've ever done..
Frankly, I would have liked to see them get some boost...

Yup I agree. My 2017 outdoorsman with the 3.6 and 3:55 gears, LSD rear end with 8 speed tranny and 125L tank is a great combo has skid plates and 1” factory lift. Only real problem just happened this week! AC compressor blew seal.. great other then that.

The engine is tuned differently in the Wrangler, most likely due to thermal constraints. The radiator isn't as big and less area around the engine for cooling. Even the EcoDiesel was de-tuned when it was shoehorned into the Jeep/Gladiator.

One question I have seen several times on the forum and one I myself had was why only five quarts of oil would bring the level to full on a Oil / filter change.
Looks like the capacity was reduced from 5.7 liter ( 6 Qt ) to 4.8 liter ( 5 Qt ) in 2016.

I have a '22 with the 3.6. It takes a little over 6 quarts. I had to call the dealership service department to ask about the capacity because the user manual that came with the truck states 5 quarts while everything I read online said 6.

Interesting, looks like the mystery swings both ways.
