Took a look inside my hemi

Just a regular block water heater will warm the lube oil up quite a bit. The oil cooler also acts like an oil heater up until the oil exceeds the coolant temp. I use the block heater on my cummins religiously, even when it's as hot as 80*F all night and I know I'll be towing the next day. Warm...

Took a look inside my hemi

Yikes, hate to see that. Good news is it's plenty salvageable and will be like brand new once yall get it back together. A buddy of mine has a 5.7 hemi with close to 300k on the original engine and tons of idle time. I'll have to ask what his oil change habits are next time I see him.

    Cummins automatic trannys

I really wish my truck was a stick shift. My car is, and despite all the eye rolls I get I still enjoy driving it after ~180k miles. I genuinely enjoy driving them and everything I owned would be a stick shift if I was king of the world. That being said, they just don't have a place in the...

    Cummins automatic trannys

Good luck bud. They are uncommon and grossly overpriced when they do hit the market. I'd personally rather just buy one with an auto and rebuild it if necessary. The 4 speeds aren't horrible expensive to rebuild, and the selection of trucks to pick from will be better. I say that as someone...

    Cummins automatic trannys

That's the right way to do it. Towing at speed is a work problem. RPMs are not a bad thing and the delta in fuel economy will be negligible. More engine speed = less torque for the hp required. More air flow, more oil flow, more coolant flow, more fan speed. It's better for everything. More...

    Cummins automatic trannys

I think that would have been the 4 speed which was a POS behind the cummins. It's damned aggravating for the average farm dude to not be able to get a regular dodge dually Cummins 6.7 (250hp ish) with a regular 8 or 10 speed medium duty Trans that'll last forever with 30k lbs behind it. The...

    Cummins automatic trannys

68rfe is fine if it hasn't been beat on. I tow with mine in 5th gear unless pulling long and flat and light. 6th gear is a little bit dinky. With a load, 3.42's behind it and a big motor in front of it, full retard downshifts for 6th to 4th like it will do, and dropping into 6th right before...

Blown 68RFE's and blown head gaskets generally have one thing in common - delete tunes.

Pacbrake Oil Filter relocation kit /Oil pressure drop

It depends where you read it. Upstream of the restriction the pressure will be higher and downstream it will be lower vs having a lesser restriction. Regular ol car engine oil pressure is generally measured in the oil gallery on the block which would be post-filter oil and read lower if filter...

Pacbrake Oil Filter relocation kit /Oil pressure drop

Flex hosing lube oil is tricky. It requires fairly giant hoses to avoid bad pressure drops. See it all the time in heavy machinery. Somebody relocates the filter and housing, uses lines that are the same size as factory but 8x as long with bends and fittings and stuff, bad pressure drop problems.

    DEF fluid

DEF is DEF is DEF as long as it meets the appropriate ASTM or EU specs. The most important thing is getting it fresh and stored indoors.

Do You Keep Your Cummins Exhaust Brake Set At Full?

I'm not a fan of leaving the EB on when it isn't needed. It hurts fuel economy by limiting coasting. It drives the duty cycle on the actuator up. It increases wear on the transmission and driveline. I dont think vanes coking up is really a thing anymore. I believe all of the VGT diesels on the...

    Gas vs Diesel

Well, one is a turbo diesel with 1000 ft-lbs of torque and the other is not, so of course there's a difference. People think a gas v8 turning 4200 rpm for 20 minutes is horrible for it, but wouldn't hesitate to run an outboard motor around at 4200 rpm everywhere it goes It's whole life. Both...

    Rear coil spring too stiff

As others have said, dropping tire pressure when the truck is unloaded will give immediate significant improvement.
