I had my concerns about pulling long grades. But after a trip to TN through the NC mountains where I pulled some steep grades for several miles I no longer have those concerns. Sat at 4000-4500 RPM for miles and the temps rose maybe 1-2 degrees. Trans sat at 170F, oil and coolant at around 210. I was impressed. That engine never broke a sweat, kept me at 55 MPH.
The 8spd in your 6.4 is so far superior to the 6spd I have it's laughable. My one complaint (and it's a big one) is the gear spacing in my 66RFE tranny. Mainly, the 1-2 gap is a mile and I get into situations when I'm around 35-40MPH where it can't hold second so, left to do it's own thing, the tranny just slams back and forth between 1 and 2.

This is usually up a fairly steep/winding grade and my 5th is around 11K loaded so I realize I'm kind of maxing out the truck. I'll usually just lock it into first and get up to about 30. It's just too bad because the 6.4 is a beast. I can only dream of how great it feels with the right gearing.

Wow that's a nice payload! My 18 Laramie megacab has a whopping 1648 lbs because of the Cummins. :) Pulls my 33ft TT just fine though. No way I'd stick a 5th wheel behind it.

That's why I love having a payload of 4262 lbs.

I am looking to by a 2022 bighorn 2500 hemi 6.4 that has just over 15k miles which has door label payload 2912#
Or a 2022 limited 2500 diesel with 27k miles and pay load 2200# I Don't plan to pull anything over 8000# They are both great motors though the limited has tons of bells and whistles!! Tough choice as both are great $$ deals and nice trucks

If you're going to bumper-pull (ball in the receiver on the back) then either truck would work well for you. If you plan on doing any gooseneck pulling, you could be okay with either truck depending on how the trailer is loaded. If you're going to pull a fifth wheel RV, you'll have to be careful and do your due diligence to make sure you're going to be okay.
