The Ram etorque adds no real benefit and adds another expensive point of failure. My 2021 Ram will be with the V-8 as I want no part of etorque. When Ram only warranties the components for 36 months it tells me that they have no confidence in its longevity. When it does fail it is more profit for the dealer.

LIGHT-DUTY TRUCKS-1500 SERIES TRUCK (ALL GAS AND DIESEL ENGINES) The Defect Warranty covers the following major emission control parts, if so equipped, for 8 years or 130,000-kilometres, whichever occurs first: • catalytic converter • powertrain control module • diesel particulate filter • belt driven hybrid starter generator assembly • power pack unit - 48 volts

Also my window sticker says the 48 volt battery is warrantied for 10 years

I've had my 2019 Longhorn for just over a year and 8500++ miles w/eTorque..."knock-on-wood", I haven't had any problems with "in Town" driving. Average about 18 mpg with AC and 21 w/o in the city. As far as AC is concerned, it does shut down with the eTorque, but only temporarily and has never left me wanting...JMHO...

How many miles did you put on one? In what conditions?

warranties the components for 36 months
You miss typed, that should be 96.

it tells me that they have no confidence in its longevity
Nissan TITAN and Nissan TITAN XD have longer standard warranty coverage if your looking for a manufacturer with more confidence, or possibly a higher up front cost to cover warranty claims.

I had a 09 titan and liked it but those new titans are UGLY the 5.6 is a great motor but does not have the heart that the pushrod HEMI has.

I looked and test dove both (My dealer let me take both home overnight and I live anout 60 miles from the dealership.) The E-Torque was nice but my wife didn't care for the Big Horn package. We bought the Laramie without the E-Torque.

I was also told that the E-Torque has a 23 gallon gas tank v. 26 with the standard Hemi. 3 gallons doesn't sound like much of a difference but I tow an 8000 lb travel trailer and my range while towing is only around 200 miles with my 26 gallon tank. I hate to have an even shorter range.

My Ram with E-Torque has a 124 liter (33 Gallons) fuel tank, you can see it on my previously posted window sticker on this thread. I pull a 6700 lb travel trailer with it @ 11mpg avg, that work out to roughly 300 miles per tank.

IMO it is something that looks good on paper but in real life & testing it is not worth it. Its unproven for longevity yet, and not sure the upfront costs outweigh the long term gains even if you do that many city miles to recoup the costs. In addition it takes away from cargo capacity so if you plan on pushing the caps (RV, towing heavy) I'd watch the weights.

My wife drives a Audi Q7 and it has auto stop/start. Most annoying feature on the car, and I turn it off when I see it activate (doesn't do it all the time when stopped).

So should you get it? Only you can make that determination after weighing in the pros and cons, and to me it has more cons then pros so.......I made the right choice. :)

I'd have to respectfully disagree with you on two blanket statements - unproven longevity & taking away from cargo capacity.

Concerning unproven longevity, one could make the same argument about the DT series Ram as it has been out as long as the eTorque. Based upon your argument of unproven longevity I'm surprised you purchased a DT Ram...

As for cargo capacity, my Lone Star states on the door frame "The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed 764 KG or 1685 LB." That is considerably more - with eTorque - than most have with other trims without eTorque. I'm not cheerleading the eTorque, despite the fact both of our family Rams with eTorque are performing extremely well, but do believe there are a number of considerations besides just cargo capacity.

E-torque is 100% new technology for the 5th gen ram. The truck itself is not 100% new from its previous generation so apples and oranges IMO. I guess one could debate if the 5th gen truck is better than the 4th or previous models, but that was not the topic of this thread.

Capacity is fixed depending on 2wd and 4wd configurations. Cargo capacity is the difference between actual vehicle weight coming off assembly line taking into account all its various options and GVW for vehicle/axles. So adding e-torque which offers a larger alternator/generator, battery pack and heavy gauge wiring would have less cargo capacity when comparing apples to apples. That is a fact, but research as you wish. If you never push your truck to limits then its a no brainer, but many use their vehicle for towing large trailers (i.e. RV's) which do push towards cargo capacity. So although its not significant it is still more than zero and certainly can push one setup over capacity (although I don't believe ~50 or 100# over cap will cause your vehicle to immediately fail, but that's a topic that has already been beaten to death on other towing threads LOL).

I'm not debating for or against getting e-torque. I don't care either way. I am trying to bring some topics to light for the OP that he may not have thought about. No one can tell you what your wants are...that is something you need to do after collecting all the data, pros, cons, etc.

Ok, well then I offer the OP a Pro: eTorque adds a mere 90 pounds to the weight to the truck for the 5.7L but also provides an extra 130 pounds lb-ft of torque. And if the 90 pounds pushes you over cap, feel free to leave a kid, one of the dogs or the wife at home when you pull the camping trailer. Better yet, leave all three at home which will provide more cap for beer, brats and Slim Jims.

Look in the upper right hand corner for the FCA Warranty InformationView attachment 222410

I been tossing the idea around of getting another 4th gen or move to a 5th gen.
Found a 5th gen for a good price but it has etorque. To me is seems like it won't make a difference for me. I won't tow very much and gas mileage is not a huge concern since it's cheap right now. Plus it's a truck and I have a heavy foot so I doubt it would be benefit me.

But anyways. I don't see on this window sticker about the warranty for the 48volt system.
