I recently changed my oil pump and sending unit on my '98 1500 5.2. Had pressure before I put new one in. Now no pressure. And not getting oil to heads. I have torn it apart and put back together 3 or 4 times. New filter also. Pump was primed prior to installing. Anybody else have this issue and if so how did you fix it?

Stupid and annoying question, but: have you pulled the dipstick and made sure there is as much oil as you think in the pan?

Other than that, I’ve heard of this when the oil pickup tube seal has failed. Oil pump can’t suck hard enough to overcome the air leak.

5.2, so were talking a 318 magnum?
You should be able to remove the distrubutor and intermediate shaft and use a priming rod to turn the pump

If I remember correctly those engine do not get oil to the heads all the time, you need to rotate the crankshaft to line everything up to get oil to the heads

Have you tried an actual gauge or just the sending unit and the dash ?

When you say you 'tore it apart several times'...do you mean the actual pump...or the oil pan?

Have you tried a different pump?

Yes I turned pump by hand and oil flowed through it

If you have a long flat blade screwdriver, cut the handle off it,and grind the tip to fit in the oil pump drive when the distributor is out,and use a drill to spin the pump manually as you rotate the engine by hand. Make sure you're spinning the pump in the right direction
