Just wanted to put up a running review of this brake controller. I was planning on just retrofittoing the factory IBC, but the 2nd plug harness I needed was back ordered so I started looking aftermarket. Was about to order the Prodigy P3 and then scrolled across this unit.
Big selling point for me is the actual module can be mounted in any orientation and location. The only thing that has to be mounted is a small rotary type knob.
I installed the the module under the steering column with some zip ties to a metal support. Drilled a hole for the controller knob below the headlight switch. Used a harness adapter from etrailer to the module harness, which allowed me to plug and play right into the gray factory harness.
Operation, basically has two modes. Proportional and user defined. I haven't logged too much seat time with the unit I've done a few miles with my car hauler loaded and unloaded (about 1600# and 5300# respectively). Unit is very smooth, no jerky operation. Trailer and tow vehicle feel like one unit.
Only observed con's so far. The obvious lack of a manual brake override lever. The unit does have manual override by pushing on the rotary knob, in proportional mode it applies(light trailer brakes), or the preset amount in user defined mode. You can control the amount of override braking by turning the knob, but a lever of sorts would be easier.
Also the unit doesn't seem to power off with a trailer connected. The blue indicator led stays lit as long as 7 pin is connected. Not sure how much current the unit pulls while it's idling, but if I were parking for an extended time I'd pull the 7-pin just to be safe.
That's all I've got so far. I'm going to be pulling an 18' car hauler(about 5300# loaded) to track days a few weekends a month. I'm currently working on installing brakes on the second axle of the trailer, just as an added safety measure since I pulling with a relatively light truck with a shorter wheel base.
Should have some more feedback as the summer progresses.
