No matter where I am or what time of day, birds keep landing on my side view mirrors and taking massive turds. It’s infuriating. I finish a wash and polish, clean up, go inside, and an hour later my mirrors look like a bird crap bombing range.

Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas? I do have the towing mirrors, but would that matter? I’m honestly toying with the idea of covering them when not in use.

Hehe could you please send a picture of your mirrors from both sides
Are they shinny and extended for towing? Birds usually love shinny **** ;p like chrome

Found something online:
The pooping is due to his stress and anxiety. This is a common springtime issue, with many birds mistaking their own reflections in windows and mirrors for a competitor

But please send pics of yours mirrors from both sides anyway
Want to check the arm of the mirror also :)

Btw never had any issues with extended towing mirrors that was black from the back on my old 2005 ram 1500 larami and I’m living in the woods in the middle of PA

When ever we go camping, I have to cover my mirrors with a bag and fold them in. Cardinals this time of year are pairing up for nesting. And they "see" themselves in the mirrors and attack and spit and poop on the truck. We were some place in indiana at a state park, where the cardinals attacked a shiny spot on this one RV, and it went on for 8 hours! They had to hang xmas tinsel and aluminum foil on strings to help stop the attacks.

if you have chrome from outside of the mirror sun is doing a thing there are some oem plastic covers on the market that could help, but if your mirror arm has a space between they will land but will not poop any more

Yes put bags over your mirrors, fold them in etc. Robins and Cardinals wreak havoc on my truck as well. They see their reflection in the mirror and attack it thinking it's another male bird and they're just protecting their territory.

I did think about applying a liberal dose of superglue to the top of the mirrors one dark morning when I was in a foul mood. But it was only a 2 second thought....

I have the 2500 with the "moose-ear" mirrors and it happens all the time. Don't care. It's a truck that I take a hose and rag to about every 2 - 3 months anyway. Keep the inside clean, don't worry about the exterior until you can't see out of the windshield anymore.

After today’s wash I folded the mirrors in. Let’s see if it helps (I did notice those stupid sparrow birds having some sort of bird dance **** on my tonneau cover as soon as I came inside). My mirrors are all black with the exception of the mirror itself and the light for the turn signal.

My concerns with covering the mirrors are: I have to remember to put them on and take them off every time I use the truck, the covers will get dumped on and then I’ll have to shake that off and have flying crap everywhere, it’ll mess with the external temp sensor, and I’m sure my wife will complain that it looks trashy.

I was also thinking about something that could eliminate my first concern. Connect both mirror covers with a thin soft rope. Attach another rope to the center of the first rope and anchor it to the garage door. The idea is that when I back out of the driveway the covers will get pulled off. I won’t do it, but the idea was thought out in my head.

I fold my mirrors when i am home & when i am parked in a parking lot, where the parking spaces are too narrow.

The birds out here, land on my bed rails & unload, except when they land in the Olive Tree or the Rain Gutter.
I almost wish the Cats & Weasel type animal,, ( ferret ), would return, i think it was someone's pet.
There were no birds around then :)
Just scratches on the Ram paint job :(

I've used black teeshirts before with some clothespins to keep them on, takes 2 seconds. Once they can no longer see themselves in it, they don't spend time on top of them either so they don't really get dirty that much.

You could also try getting a cat? But depending on how you feel about them, the cure might be worse than the disease.

put plastic bags over them when parked in the drive way.

my issue is with a red cardinal that is constantly banging against a window...at least 100 times a day! I tried to cover the window, and he just goes to another. ARGH! This starts early in the morning and continues until nite. Constant bump. bump bump bump. You'd think he would knock himself out, or at least learn he's looking at HIS OWN REFLECTION!!

I'm going to buy a BB gun.

On my '04 truck I have the black mirrors and they get pooped on too but I believe it's the proximity to their nests in the trees and garage where they build nests on the motion lights. These are small birds (finch type) but the stuff adds up. This time of the year they are very busy raising their young.

My new truck, the 2023, has the power folding mirrors which fold in when I lock the truck. They are chrome but so far have not attracted them maybe because they cannot see themselves in the mirror when it's folded in. The crows however bomb the truck at will year 'round. Usually right after I wash them. "Black crow squadron leader to Platoon 2. Target is clean and now needs a bombing run. Drop your load at 10 feet above the roof and hood. Over?"
