Previously had a '95 1500 and a '04 1500..most recently was running a '96 Chevy 2500HD diesel (what an underpowered crap box that thing was...) that started having major issues about 1,000 miles from home on a big road trip, and decided I'm just sick of always working on my old junk all the time...so I went hunting for something new. After having a small heart attack over the prices, because the last time I went new truck hunting was about 20 years ago, I ended up picking up a 55K mile 2017 2500 CCLB 4x4 diesel. Appears to be the proverbial bone stock grandpa truck, complete with the big ol' camper shell, which is exactly what I wanted. Well, except for the camper shell, lol.

I have zero desire to start messing with tuners and the like, though just adding a few off road oriented mods as it will become my primary camping truck, and I almost exclusively find places deep in the wilderness, so just some better tires, adding my 12K winch, some lighting upgrades, and my ham radio gear.

oh, I won't be doing any kind of extreme off roading in this one. I have a full tilt rock crawler in the garage for that stuff. I just like to have 4WD for the times I find myself caught out after a rain storm and it gets muddy, or am going up a steep mountain grade and the rear end starts getting loose, or am on a rough desert trail and don't want to beat on the truck to get the front end up ledges, etc.

I went "everywhere" with that '04 1500 with only the factory limited slip and 2WD, but felt like I was abusing the truck a lot by having to hit some things harder to get the front end up and over, so now I insist on 4x4 just so I don't feel like I'm hammering on the truck so much.

Thanks, though I didn't really intend it as a help wanted post, and already made another post in the general section for help locating a bumper style. I'll probably just have to fab up what I want later though, when it cools off from hot oven temps in a few months, lol.

Most forums have a rule/request/whatever to make an intro post, so that's all I was going for here.

I have the same truck. The sheer weight will change the way you navigate. The nanny kill switch will help and it definitely won't hurt. You'll find it handy when you're simply trying to ascend a muddy incline.
