I installed AlphaOBD2 in my phone and purchased a cheap Veepeak bluetooth scanner from Amazon. I didn't buy a more expensive one because currently my only real plan is to enable the turnsignal DRL's. In reviews, some said they had no issues with the Veepeak. So I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong or this just won't communicate. I will return it for a better one if I have to, but if someone could steer me in the right direction as to how to connect, it would be greatly appreciated.

So far I have hit the bluetooth button on the Alpha app and it gives a list of 4 different Uconnect numbers plus AndroidAuto which I assume is my phone. I tried to connect with the Android Auto and the only Uconnect that ended with 4C since I upgraded from the 3C, both to no avail.

I also hit the little icon at the top of the Alpha app that looks like gears which took me to OBD Interface. There were a few options there but the only option that made sense was the one that said BLUE adapter with OBD/link. I tried with and without that checked and no go. If I cannot figure this out, I will just return the scanner and eat the $50 for the Alpha. Any advice is appreciated, but go easy on me, as I said I'm an old dude and tech dummy. :help:

This is the scanner I have.... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011NSX27A?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

The very first thing to do once connected is make a backup of your current configuration. Your lack of tech skills to even get connected may make it more likely you change something “by accident” that causes problems. Or might be the saving grace that keeps you from hosing your truck.

AlfaOBD is a very sharp tool. Wielded improperly or w i l l y nilly, it can cause deep cuts.

I guess not, but I just went out and tried without luck. But I will keep working on it, reading the fine print in the instructions that came with it. I assumed the Alpha app would see it. I wasn't joking when I said I was a dummy with this stuff.

Well, there is a Youtube vid out there describing exactly how to install DRL's with it which didn't look too bad. I won't be doing anything stupid once it's connected. There is a very thorough youtube vid out there that shows each step.

Some drink from the font of knowledge. Others only gargle.

Probably the best advice in this thread so far.

Here is what you should see connecting to it.

AlphaOBD2?

There's a version 2? How do I upgrade, I've still got the original AlphaOBD. Does version 2 still work with the OBD Link MX+?

It's still AlphaOBD, no #2. Yours should update automatically. If concerned you can check your current version with the Alpha website info. Yes, it continues to work on the MX+ which is still Alpha's recommended device

Yes, I would definitely keep track of everything I have done.

I use the AlfaOBD 'Backup vehicle configuration to file' process and also keep a text file documenting all changes with any observations or experiences. Sometimes I save a screenshot because I can with my Windows laptop.

This also gives me a running history of any changes I attempted that didn't produce the desired results.

And, I have summer & winter wheels that require a circumference setting tweak.
