Howdy folks, im James. My truck (03 1500 quad cab 4x4 4.7 sohc vin:n ‘leroy’) is becoming a bit ornery in his olden years. this 4.7 is at upwards of 325k so im prepared to accept that the powerplant isnt going to remain so steadfast, however ive been noticing a slight ringing or maybe like an eerie singing sound from the inside like right iff the back of the engine.
Fuel economy: dog**** but thats nominal.
Power: decreased by approx 15-20%
Misfires: none noticed. by me or the pcm
Knocking: no. BUT, i havent determined if this is a fan shroud issue maybe a pulley or even like idk a fucken cryptid living up underneath my front end but while running and standing in front of the truck esp with hood up, it sounds like 4 washing machines rolling down a hill 300 ft away and a running truck. Like its just alot of clatter thats not necessarily coming from the engine i suspect fan shroud however i havent confirmed and now with this eerie howling im afraid ol leroy has the machine spirits equivalent of death looming overhead. The surprising thing and what gives me solace is that, the oil when i change it is always always always clean and clear of debris/sparkles. And i mean i have the **** running all down my arms when i change the oil cause i examine the tailings on my bare hands thoroughly. Theres no shavings and oil is just brown, somewhat dark, clean, still probably usable, oil. Now the other issue that if #1 IS explained by my guys shaft being worn down, could be related. On key turn, click, no crank, no start. No power draw, have power, have relay click, no crank. Grounds, abysmal, surely. Not enough to deny crank all together. Could this be crankshaft related due to the worn shaft binding somewhere, thus, hard to turn? Also my belt drive has the ac compressor still in place with no ac components, and the dingus that deleted the ac just left the ac compressor fuggin PORTED however there seems to be no resistance when spinning the ac pulley. All other pulleys seem to be properly operational. Power is certainly decreased almost like my transmission werent engaging all the way (yes ik thats not how it works) just like walking in severe wind like it prevents you moving but just ever so slightly. No misfires ive noticed. Running autolite 5224’s this is the 286 with only 8 sparks. No relevant codes, just evap, coolant temp sensor, and an o2 code. (Running pcm default o2 state as that ****** is not coming out and is no longer connected or even recognizable as an o2 sensor..) doubt its relevant but its str8 piped (not ignorantly without the cat, im not a monster, i have the catalytic converter still in operation.) ohh and hes got foam running down the front cover behind the accessory pulleys (front seal?) i think thats all i can provide of relevance, anyone have any thoughts? Raise hell, praise dale. Atta boi leroy. Thanks for reading folks!
