I’ve got 165,000 miles on my 6.4 hemi. It’s a work truck so it sees a lot of stop and go traffic, hauling and tows about 5,000 pounds every day and up to 10,000 pounds every now and then. It uses a good 3-4 quarts of oil if I let the oil meter go all the way to 0%.

Pressure has always been about 50-52 cruising warm and 29-30 idling. All of the sudden I’m getting 45-47 psi cruising and still getting 29-30 idling.

Is this cause for concern? It still runs great and doesn’t have any weird ticking noises or knocks. I know it’s not extreme but it’s weird to all of the sudden drop like that after so many years. It’s a 2016. I have 50% left on my oil meter and added a quart and a half the other day. I need to keep a better check on it.

Try a new filter first, and go from there

Bottom line going thicker will very likely stop some of that burning and raise psi.

Where is all that oil going?

3 quarts in 10,000 miles isn't that bad on something that has 165,000 miles on it,and is working pretty well every mile it makes. A quart every 3,000 miles isn't excessive.

I think apec by Mopar is a quart every 1,000 miles.

I would change out the filter to one of the preferred synthetic media ones. If running the Mopar filter, I'd be changing the filter every 4 to 5 k, if I was running the oil meter to 0%.

My humble opinion

I’ll try an oil change this weekend. I’m not sure what filter is on it. I had some leaks pop up and had the rear main seal, oil pan gasket and a few things replaced a couple months ago.

I run usually mobil1 or pennzoil 0w40

0W40??? In a 2016? Might be part of why you get the lower PSI, when the engine is hot. Most of us are 5W20, and the "preferred" seems to be 5W30, based on the "early" Hemi equipped 4th gens. The later "switched" to the thinner 5W20, and most people (My '18 Hemi being an exception seemingly, as the 5W30 didn't run well for me) say the 5W30 runs BETTER than the 5W20, so 0W40 seems really weird for a '16.

It is a 6.4 not a 5.7. I agree with trying a different filter. My 6.4 uses no oil between changes at 6500 miles, but it also doesn't work hard every day and only has 30,000 miles on it. I run the 0/40 Penzoil and either Mopar or Fram Gold Filter. Idle is 30-32 PSI, cruising 55+.
