There is always a way to thwart the bad guys, a fellow I knew was having trouble with another fellow on the job who was urinating in the sand they used for mortar mix. So, one day, being fed up with this guy, buddy, being an electrician, ran the neutral of a live circuit into the sand. He found a different place to pee after that.

Mine was broke into last year. Was at work, factory, even got an alert on my phone , which I didn’t see right away. Looked out a window and could see the truck so I thought it was a mistake or something, till I went to go home that morning. Sure enough the passenger window was smashed out. They took two bic lighters, couple used lotto tickets, gun club pass, but left my multi tool and pile of change! Security vid showed another truck come into parking lot and stop by my truck. Cost me $450 for new window , have $1k deductible so no insurance and employer wouldn’t do anything. I now park infront of the factory, which they don’t like, but after being there 44 years, go ahead and fire me

"I have a neighbor who used to tell everyone for yrs about the gun under his truck seat. It's like that cowboy movie where the town drunk goes around showing everyone the gold nugget he found. Well, one night the gun got liberated."
I'm not sure why some people do that, but it's pretty much like advertising to the dishonest and criminally prone. The more people that know such things only makes for a bigger suspect pool.

Wife and I went to a concert on Wednesday night - drove down to Atlanta to see our friends in SAUL play at the Masquerade, and also got to hang with the guys from Kingdom Collapse. Great guys - signed all our merch, etc. - Anyway, after the show, we went to get something to eat. Parked the truck right across the street from the pub where we were getting some food to go - took about 30 minutes to get it.

Came out and the rear passenger door window was broken out. Whoever it was, didn't seem to know what they were doing.... Only thing they stole was a medical kit with a bunch of gauze and bandages... and they drank a can of Cherry Coke from the cooler. They rooted through the rest of the cab, but didn't mess with my wife's purse, dumped out my Halls cough drops, rooted through the glove boxes, left all our signed merch and even a canvas from the tour alone. Didn't touch my ammo, my magazines, my radios, or my personal locator strobe. Left the other med kit with the bleeding and airway management stuff alone. SMDH...

Cops think they know who it was and apparently were able to verify there is video... Not that worried about it...

Honestly - I'm more amused than pissed off - insurance is covering the replacement of the window completely, and put $100 in my account for the medical kit...

A few weeks ago my step-sons truck was side-swiped hit and run. He had it parked in front of his house. He has a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 with Fuel wheels and had just bought brand new Toyo tires. The tires/wheels stick out about 2" on each side. Luckily they only caught his mirror and drivers front tire. Gouged some rubber chunks from the tire but it's still holding air and scraped the lip of his wheel. Guy took off and no witnesses. He was out back and heard it but by the time he ran around front they were gone. No cameras caught it either. Insurance is replacing the tire/wheel and mirror and throwing it on the alignment machine to verify it hasn't been knocked out. But people suck. Hopefully they get their karma.

I had something like that happen once...only it was intentional.

I was driving a '66 classic car to my parents for a holiday 2hrs away. Stopped at a town to get fuel. Well then the starter would not engage. Automatic tranny, ...what a TIME to have that happen! It was a holiday, no places were open. The filling station was on a slightly raised level, so wife and I rolled the car to street parking at a park, right by the filling station ..under a street light. Now I should chime in here and say, I had just finished painting the car...I put a lot of work into the entire bodywork and paint process. I'd been doing paint work since I was 14 at that point. Worked at a few shops in college, had done a few high-end restorations by then. This was a personal side-project. I totally stripped the car, best bodywork, straight as an arrow, wetsanded the clear with 2000#, and buffed out to perfection under high-intensity lights. Show quality. Like it was dipped in Black! Figured I'd show my brother how it turned out. All I had to do was finish the interior and get the new wheels/tires on.

Anywhoo....Came back the next day with new starter, and overnight some moron intentionally pushed their pickup into the driver's door and crushed it! Basically ruined the door. That really let the wind out of my sail for the day. We figure it had to be intentional b/c of how where it was parked and how it was hit. Nobody had cameras back then. I was working on a pretty tight budget back then. That stung! Ultimately I found a new [straight] rust-free door and drove to like Nebraska to get it. Being black was easy to strip, re-do and install. And at least they only hit the middle of the door (hit it pretty hard too!). I had another car minor-vandalized, but this one stung the worst.

If you have something nice, no matter how much you had to work to make it that way, there'll always be somebody out there who'll want to knock ya down a few notches. I can sympathize how rotten it feels.

The *do-different* now that I'm older and a little wiser..would be I would have removed the starter and attempted a field-repair, which I had considered. But forestalled the holiday meal. And/or would have done whatever to go back with a trailer, tow-bar, etc. Or have it towed to a tow company with a secure lot ...not let it sit overnight.
