Gotta a head scratcher. '99 with the VP44, crank, no start condition. Ran positive and negative straight to the VP44 and it starts. Ultimately, when I remove the data link pos and neg from the VP44, it runs. My understanding was that the VP44 ignored all data until it reached idle speed, so what could the data link be telling the VP44 to not let it start? Just to muddy the water a little more, the no start condition began intermittently until it progressed to it rarely starting. It has a FASS lift pump and rebuilt VP44 in the not so distant past. I'm leaning toward a defective VP44 because it should not let the data link interrupt the start. Buddy thinks it is a bad ECM. Any ideas or information someone would like to share..thanks.
