Can you replace solenoid pack in the transmission behind the 6.7 diesel wo removing the internal filter. Just had transmission fail after recall was done on solenoid. Filter was found laying in the pan. Dealer doing the recall work said they didn’t touch the filter. Dealer that replaced the transmission said you can’t access the solenoid wo removing the filter on my 2016 2500.
Can anybody clarify?

No way to remove solenoid pack without removing filters. One is attached to the valvebody which is attached to the solenoid pack and has to be removed in order to get to the screws holding it in place. You have a pancake type filter and a canister screw in type filter (just like oil filter for engine) in your trans. Both are internal filters and cannot access without removing pan.

Thank you!! Dealer told me when they took care of the solenoid recall that they didn’t have to remove the filter that ended up laying in the transmission pan.
Guessing someone neglected to tighten the filter which ultimately fell out and very probably caused the transmission to fail.

Was the plastic nipple that holds the screw on filter broken or just unscrewed ? Likely they either didn’t tighten it or broke it when they retightened it. Either way it’s their screw up.

Thanks. Not exactly sure how to pursue this. Cost me over 11K to get the transmission fixed with car rentals, towing, lodging and major inconvenience. There was about 15K miles between when the solenoid was replaced and the transmission failed.
Even though, seems like they should bear some of the responsibility.

This would seem to be your biggest hurdle but probably worth pursing? Maybe talk to a Lemon-Law attorney? Not that this has anything to do with that law but those lawyers are at least in the industry.
