Upgraded the factory 6 speakers.

Hifonics ZS693 3 way 6x9's (4 of them) for $57.90
Hifonics ZS35CX 2 way 3.5inch $20.99
Metra 72-6514 x2 $11.98
Metra 72-6902 $5.99
Under a $100 for the adapters and speakers.

What I didn't count on was having to buy spacers and some resistors.....bumped it to a little over a $100....LOL

Sounds pretty good for speaker upgrade
Thinking of doing my 6x9s with a set of inexpensive pioneers. Eventually do the dashes, but not before the stereo itself with aftermarket pioneer.

Saw a member on the thread do the DeeZee tail gate assist. Figured for $35 why not give it a shot. Incredibly easy install and can't believe I've gone this long without it. Highly recommend for a quick and cheap useful mod.
I bought my Ram in April and I keep seeing people talk about the DeeZee tailgate assist. I guess I just don't get it. I open the tailgate and lower it with one hand. It's easy. I don't have little kids that might get bashed in the head by a falling tailgate. My wife equally doesn't get it. I asked her if the tailgate caused her any problems with opening, she looked bewildered and asked "Why would it?"

Maybe this is one of those things that once you get it, you understand it. Like our new dishwasher has LED lights inside. I would have told you "Why would you need that?" before having LED lights in the dishwasher, but it's actually quite nice to have them.

I bought one so that my wife and kids could open it and not have to worry about dropping it on someone, or just dropping the tailgate altogether... figured for $20, I’ve wasted a lot more for a lot less use, lol.

For an inexpensive set of speakers they surprisingly have some decent sound quality. I was thinking of going with the Kicker speakers that have been advertised but these do pretty darn good. Had to use the 6mm; 1/4inch spacers for all the doors though, because the metal frame/basket of the speaker does not fit the 6x9 opening in the door because it is slightly bigger on the Hifonics. I posted what I did in the Audio/Electronics section under: My experience so far...

I completely see what your saying and yes, you're right, it's not until you get it that you'll probably appreciate having it. Ever had your hands full and had to open the tailgate then try to not let it slam down? This is what I like about it, I can pull the handle and it drops down without slamming. Personal preference sure...but like I had mentioned... for $35 and no drilling etc, why not?

You might be best served finding an aftermarket replacement.

SitKneelBend, I have searched everywhere I can think of with no luck. Think I will try to repaint mine. If it turns out, Great if not it can not be any uglier then the black one.

Maybe a chrome bull bar with an integrated license plate holder?

I installed the DZ Tailgate assist on my 2016, then immediately on my 2018. Wife loves its and it stops the tailgate from slamming down. Easier to deal with when you have your hands full. And if anything happens to be in its way, the slower speed will mean less, or hopefully no damage.

I had a friend who owns a RAM 2500 lower my tailgate one day. The following week we installed a DZ on her truck! Loves it.

Mine started up with a little noise. Keeping an eye on it and if it gets worse I'll just replace. Coming up on a year since I installed. If I have to purchase another it is still money well worth spent.

I installed a tail gate assist and love it. I just click the tailgate and let it fall. For me I like it as it means Less contact with the tailgate and that equals less scratches. Also, like mentioned when you’re hands are full it helps. It’s almost as good as a powered tailgate on an SUV only it costs $30 and 10 minutes of your time. I tell everyone to get them. I also have two very young kids so...

What sort of noise? Mine has made a slight hiss from day one, I assumed it was normal.

That's normal, it's an air shock

It is normal. Nothing to worry about. If it starts to sound gritty or squeaky that might be an issue of wear and tear. But shocks tend to last for years. Think about hoods and normal tailgates. The fail rate must be low. I’ve never had one fail and I’ve had a lot of vehicles. Knock on wood lol

i don't know if it's really a "mod" but I got a 32gig portable hard drive for my music and plugged it into the center console usb. Works with the Voice Recognition, I was annoyed by my Uconnect 5 not having a CD player in it so that was my solution.

I just use a USB thumb drive. Same principal, just smaller & no USB cables hanging around.
