I have had 4.56's in my truck for over a year now and it was by far one of the best mods to date. This is the way the truck should have come. I'm running 305-40-22's which are about 1.6" shorter then the stock 33" tires, this helps with accel too.
Moral of the story .......Do It!

Sorry to jack the thread, but am I going to need to buy a LSD to get the gears I ordered installed?

Nope, But for all the trouble/cost IMO save up and get the LSD (I got the Auburn) and do it in a one-er.

Gears are by far one of my favorite mods and will be one of the first things I get on my next ride. These trucks should have come factory with at least 4.10s

Will doing this swap to 4.56 gears mess up my speedometer?

"Ok, so after doing some research and talking to a couple guys who sell gears, here is the answer to my question:

4.11 and up gears require either shaving one tooth down to allow the center pin in or buying a notched one: CHRYSLER 9.25" NOTCHED CROSS PIN (like KGBIGCOUNTRY said, thx man)

4.56 and 4.88 gears do require modification to the gears or to the housing to fit the newer 1500's

Doesn't seem to be an issue with needing a new/different carrier

So my plan is to get that notched pin and just replace the one we modified. I plan on towing with the truck, so I don't want any weak spots.

I will keep everyone posted as the gears break in. I'm sure the power and mileage will only get better!"

Hey I have an open diff and my mechanic said he had no need for a different pin or gear shave is this because I don't have LSD or other traction device in? I will be putting Powertrax no slip in as soon as I get the right one for open diff. will I need the pin then?
