I went from a v6 to a hemi. Granted the v6 was a regular cab and the new hemi is crew cab. But, I enjoy having the extra power and don't really see myself going back.

That said, the v6 with 8 speed is a pretty capable engine and nothing to be looked down on. Go drive one and see.

Do you pull a trailer or haul anything heavy?

I like the power of my hemi. I am willing to sacrifice mpg to have the power. Plus I use mine to haul heavy loads.

Is the ski slope a double black diamond or the bunny hill?

not a bunny hill, but not the alps either. a good mile and a half, much steeper than the hwys in the blue ridge mountains, of va, just not as long.

The V6 won't be as much pure joy as the Hemi, but it won't have any problems. Those little Pentastars really do make plenty of power. 305 horsepower with the 8 speed's gearing will get you up that hill as quickly as you want unloaded, and I wouldn't expect any issues with a small trailer either.

Seriously, go test drive one and make your own decision. In ancient times before the internet, base level engines served many well without the second guessing and sword fighting over engine sizes.

I went from Hemi to the Pentastar V6. I don't tow much. Drive three miles to work. For me to get into a new truck, the decision was Hemi or 4X4. I couldn't have both due to the payment. My old Hemi 2WD was crap in the snow. Hence 4WD won out. It don't matter how much power you have if your truck can't move.

I had a 2012 Hemi, now I have the Pentastar....I don't tow heavy or often, but do drive a lot of miles. The V-6 and the 8 speed tranny are a really great option. The fuel savings over the Hemi makes me happy!

What kind of mpg's are you pulling in? Just out of curiosity.

Same for me. Went from a
2013 1500 CC 4x4 v8/6spd Tradesman (13/16mpg). Had it for 4 mos/3k miles
to a
2013 1500 CC 4x4 v6/8spd SLT (17/22 mpg)

Couldn't be happier with the truck and the v6/8spd combo. It fits my needs well even 26k miles later. I would have considered a v8/8spd but it was a lot more than the $29.4k I paid for the v6.

I never had a Hemi but have yet to feel any regret buying the Pentastar.

It has plenty of umph for sane driving. It is a truck so I'm not looking for the best 1/4 mile time. I need something that has enough power to get around in traffic and not be a dog if I load it down. It has yet to feel underpowered. I've owned many older V8 trucks that were dogs in comparison to this engine/powertrain.

I've heard the Pentastar has more HP than the 4.7. Never looked it up.......

My 4.7 has been plenty powerful over the years, I never tow anything but DO load the back with everything including 15 80# bags of Redi-Mix many, many times, and lumber and firewood.

I'm going to drive a V-6 someday.

A year ago when I was looking to buy I considered the V6 because my buddy has one and is quite happy with it.At the end of the day(being old school and spending a lot of money on my first new vehicle)I just couldn't bring myself to buy a 6 cylinder 4x4 CC.I never road tested the 6 and it's been bugging me to no end.So the other day a new Rebel V6 lands at work and I took it for a spin. All I can say is that as nice as it was I'm really, really glad that I went with the Hemi.To me it just sounds and works so much better.I really didn't buy a truck to get huge fuel mileage but this thing has worked out well. The Rebel v6 just sounded lame.

Another Buddy at work went from a 15 QC V6 to a 17 Hemi QC(BOTH 4X4)and he says he's pretty happy with the small difference in fuel mileage compared to the power difference.

I love the Pentastar in my 4000 lb Wrangler, with the six speed manual and 3.73 LSD.

If I I was going six, it would be the Eco diesel.
