I’m wondering how many tow with a 23 gallon tank? I‘m thinking of getting a travel trailer, and estimated 10-12 mpg at the best. That means refueling every 200 miles.

It's actually 26 gal standard, and I did for a while, finally broke down and put the 32 gal tank in it.

YUP. How it is, unless you go and get modified bigger tank. I have optional 26 gallon, but all that does with FCA'S LOUSY PROGRAMMING, I never get accurate amount of fuel in tank reading, so I always tank at 1/4 whether towing or driving, just how dis BOIRD does things.

OP needs to look at his Build sheet under Optional Equipment to see if they put in a 26, or does he still have the Standard 23 gallon. On MY 19, 23 is Standard but I have the optional whole OMG big butt tank at 26 gallons, LMAO.

I tow with it and don't have a problem stopping to fuel and stretch my legs. At a reasonable speed, that's a reasonable amount of time to sit in one position.

My build sheet states 31 gallon tank. Then at the bottom of the sheet it says "5.5 additional gallons of diesel added". Does that just mean they actually put 5.5 gallons of diesel in the tank ?

Thought so. Thanks. I also saw where Titantanks has a 50 gallon replacement tank for my truck that fits where the OEM tank is. Their web site states no mods required. That might be in my future. Others might be interested to increase their fuel capacity.

I don't think the 33g tank is worth the cost to add later, nor the hit to the already abysmally low payload. Mine has the 26g tank and she was getting anywhere from 8-12 mpg with my trailer.. just means you'll be stopping alot for fuel and snacks. :drink_nl:

When I am towing, my 'tank' is typically full before the truck tank is empty, so I am stopping every two hours or so anyway. Here in New England you are never that far from a gas station, so it's not a big deal. Might be a different story in other parts of the country. I know I pay an extra 10 to 20 cents for gas sometimes, but with a 20 gallon fill up, that is only $2 - 4 extra, not gonna break the bank, and not worth it for me to go to the extra expense and hassle of adding more fuel capacity.

Allegedly for moving the vehicle while shipping. And they charged you for that fuel also, LOL.

How big a trailer are you getting? I have a 26 gallon tank and pull a 3500 lb TT and a car trailer
with a tractor at times....on our last 1200 mile camp trip....I averaged 17mpg.

You don't mention anything about what truck you have. That might be helpful!. If its a gas engine, then 10 to 12 MPG is VERY optimistic. My truck is a 2500 with 6.4 and 4.10's. On Sunday we drove about 325 miles coming back from a trip with our Rockwood Ultra Lite 2806BS which is about 7600 pounds as we load it. I got 8.5 MPG and that was the best I've gotten so far with the exception of one day when we got 9.6 with about a 15 MPH tail wind. A travel trailer is essentially like towing a parachute behind you aerodynamics wise and the effect on MPG is greater than with other types of trailer.

I've got a 31 Gallon tank and I usually stop when the range readout gets down to 75 miles (no idea how accurate that is). It usually takes about 20 Gallons at that point so I've got about 1/3 of a tank remaining (around 11 gallons). If you did the same 1/3 reserve, you'd have only about 16 gallons to use and only 8 in reserve. If you got 8.5 MPG, that would only get you 136 miles, keeping in mind that 8.5 is my record for MPG without a big tail wind. Even if you actually did get 10 MPG, you would only get 160...unless you want to keep less of a reserve than I do (keeping in mind that your 1/3 is smaller than my 1/3 to begin with). But I really recommend against that, particularly when you are out west or other places where you might have to go a ways between gas opportunity. When your engine is this thirsty, you really don't want to let it get too low.

When towing the trailer, I find its best to take a more leisurely approach than when I'm driving my other vehicles. Go slower, stop a lot more often, etc. My rule of thumb for a days travel is to add at least 2 hours to whatever Google Maps says my travel time will be to a given destination and that seems to work out pretty well for us.

My 19 has 23 gallon tank. We tow a travel trailer once to twice a year. Depending on my speed and terrain type traveling through it's not that bad. I've learned pack light and no need to rush to where we are going.

I agree with Randy Grant and 2019 Ram in SC....It's not the size of the tank (my build sheet says 32 gal.) it's the size of the bladder. I found that stopping at a two hour interval keeps everybody on board smiling. Half tank of gas = full tank of P!

I have the Titan 50+ gallon tank and love it. It means only one fuel stop per day and often that's unhitched. The fuel gauge isn't accurate anymore. It reads full for long time, then starts reading as the fuel gets used. The guage still seems to be reliable to tell you when must re-fuel, but i don't trust that dashborad read out about how many more miles worth of fuel you have. The tank and instulation is very expensive, but I'll be getting another one when I trade in this Ram.

I recently bought a 2022 gas rig with 31 gallon tank, now towing 7500 pounds. So far, 8 to 9 mpg. In our area gas stations are often widely spaced, and many of those stations just won't accommodate our rig/trailer combo. So I bought a 46 gallon auxiliary tank that sits in the bed. Fuel is transferred with a pump, even while driving, using one of the upfitter switches on the dash. It includes a separate fuel gauge. IMG_3366.jpg I'm not sure that's legal in all states but in Idaho it is. Cost was under $1000. Installation was easy, but if anyone is interested I could offer a few tips that can save time. Here is the source I used, but there are more options: https://www.tankandbarrel.com/recta...ngle-gasoline-auxiliary-fuel-tank-p-1233.html
(And regarding *** stops, we have lots of bushes here.)

I generally tow with my truck, Can't get the gas tank to pull anything, But when filling up , way cheaper than a large tank.
Slow morning.

P.S. I looked at my build sheet on my truck, says 32 gallons, than down further on the sheet it also says 4.5 additional gal. of gas. It is a club cab 6 ft box
