Current Ram and Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis will step down as of June 1, Stellantis announced on Friday. Current Chrysler CEO Christine Feuell will replace him at Ram while continuing her leadership role at Chrysler. Matt McAlear will take over as the new boss of Dodge, stepping up from his previous position as the leader for Dodge sales operations.
Kuniskis' career with Stellantis stretches over 30 years, starting in district sales for Chrysler parts and service in 1993. He ascended to senior manger for dealer operations in 2003, served as director for Chrysler marketing in 2009, and became the head of Fiat in North America in 2011.

Kuniskis rose to his first CEO position with Dodge in 2013. He went on to hold various leadership roles amid the Fiat-Chrysler evolution through the 2010s. He endured the Stellantis merger and accepted his current Dodge CEO position in 2021. He added Ram CEO to his portfolio in 2023.

In 2014 Kuniskis became the head of Dodge and SRT brands, just as the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V-8 engine hit the scene. Producing 707 horsepower for the Dodge Charger and Challenger, it reset the bar for performance and ushered in a new golden age of muscle cars from Detroit. Under Kuniskis's leadership, Dodge became a pure performance brand that ultimately brought the Hellcat V-8 to every model in the lineup. He was a vocal proponent of the "Brotherhood of Muscle"—the core group of Dodge buyers who lived and breathed the Hemi V-8 engine.
Some might say he tied the Hemi with Dodge a little too tightly. His retirement is timed with the end of the V-8 era at both Dodge and Ram. The Challenger is dead, and the new Charger will offer an electric powertrain or a twin-turbocharged inline-six engine. The same goes for Ram, which loses Hemi V-8 options in lieu of the twin-turbo six or the venerable 3.6-liter V-6.
“I want to take the opportunity to warmly thank Tim for his passion, commitment, and contributions to Stellantis and in defining the vision of the future electrified Ram and Dodge brands," said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. "I wish him well in his retirement.”

That's not good news for the brand. At least he retires near the end of his career and had a great run.

Dodge, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis Is Following the Hemi Out the Door

The chief exec of Dodge and Ram will retire this June, with both roles replaced by two familiar execs from within Stellantis.

Tim Kuniskis, one-time host of MT's Last Call drag racing event celebrating the Hemi V-8, and CEO of Dodge and Ram in the U.S., is now retiring out of his executive roles at Stellantis this summer. The shuffle at the top comes amid a shift in corporate strategy to downsized internal combustion and electrified powertrains going forward, and the CEO's replacement has already been announced.

Nobody should envy the person at Dodge that has to convince a sales base of high-horsepower V-8 muscle car owners to eventually switch to electric power, but that person won't be Tim Kuniskis, who is retiring from his roles at Dodge and Ram on June 1 this year. He will be replaced at Dodge by Matt McAlear, who already leads the automaker's sales operations. Kuniskis' leadership at Ram will be taken over by Chris Feuell, who is also the current CEO of Chrysler.

Kuniskis hopped around within the Stellantis stable of brands, serving a brief stint overseeing Jeep and Alfa Romeo in 2018 between jobs at Dodge, where he returned in 2021 and then added the Ram brand to his duties in 2023. He kept the Dodge brand focused on performance, even as it introduces its first Dodge Charger Daytona EV muscle car.
Kuniskis is well-known for introducing high-horsepower, fan-favorite models often featuring the corporate Hemi V-8 engine, which is no longer going to be offered in any model for any brand going forward. Instead, Kuniskis oversaw development of its more efficient replacement, the Hurricane family of inline-cylinder engines, currently offered in SO and HO versions, both being turbocharged, with an I-4 version rumored to be just around the corner. This engine is now in the latest generation of the 2025 Ram 1500, as well as upcoming two- and four-door versions of the new Dodge Charger.

The Associated Press reports that Ram sales are down over 29 percent this year as a factory undergoes retooling, and Dodge's sales are down on the year by more than 17 percent, despite the introduction of the new Hornet SUV.
