The earlier 5 speed R/T's came through with a convertor that would roughly stall at 2600 rpm,in comparision to the standard 1850 rpm stall the normal trucks employed. After they went to the 8 speed in the 14 R/T's it used the same driveline as you could get in any other 8 speed truck,except the standard gears in the R/T's were 3.92's while they were usually an optional gear in any other truck
A Ram engineer talked about it several years ago over on another site. If you think about it,the engine and transmission offset to the passenger side,offsets the weight of the fuel tank.Plus the fact the trucks height differances don't really change between a full tank of fuel and an empty tank of fuel,as the tank is still inside the frame rails,if it was out board of the frame rails it might have more of a factor,but not so much in board of them.
If you're on street tires and spinning hard on the launch,it sometimes helps to leave the traction control engaged.Got a chance to run the local 1/8th mile.
Best speed 74.15mph.
Best time 9.37.
Speed gained 2-3mph from last fall, with just headers/exhaust, times didn't really gain anything.
First couple runs just spun and had to back off to hook up. Everybody was having traction issues, it got better later.
Terrible RT's, trying to push pedal a little slower to avoid spinning.
I don't want to abuse this truck too much so I think I might build a dedicated drag car.
From a dig the RFE isn't to bad,it's roll racing and high speed runs in overdrive that'll kill it in a hurry. Tow/Haul mode is good,but if you're on street tires and spinning,leave the traction control on,especially with the 4.10's and higher stall convertor you'll have in your early R/T
