The 2018 8.4 I installed in my 2015 a couple months ago has the same issue, display is off center towards the drivers side and also kicked a little lower than it should be. Doesn’t impact my access to any of the controls but it is annoying to look at.
I just looked up that radio and it's identical to the Linkswell unit as far as the harnesses. On the power harness, labeled 10 in the attached pic, there should be a yellow male RCA labeled Factory Camera or something like that. That is the breakout from the factory wiring for the backup camera...
The Linkswell T-Style that I had installed in my truck had a harness that connected to the factory wiring that provided the RCA connections to connect to the radio. What brand T-Style radio are you using? Sounds like a harness might be missing.
I don't know about the Harman Karden 8.4 units but I can tell you the Pioneer units from 2018 are surpringly clean with no distortion up to max volume. I just verified mine using both an oscilloscope and the Steve Meade Designs distortion detector.
In my opinion, checking the speaker loads at the harness that connects to the radio is the easiest place to access them. The pins for each are below for reference. Should be ~2.7 ohms on the front channels and ~4 ohms on the rears.
The door and dash speakers are in parallel. If he can get to the radio harness and ohm out the speaker outputs he should be seeing 2.7 ohms on the front channels and 4 ohms on the rear.
The head unit itself was a direct plug and play, no special programming needed. You will need to upgrade the USB Media Hub in your armrest because the one in our trucks aren't compatible with the CarPlay units.
