Hi

Looking to buy a used 2010 RAM 1500 SLT 4Door 6 ft bed, gas fuel, high miles 230,000 for $5500. I know all the typical things to look for in a high mileage truck in general but my main question is are there any major issues with this year model 2010 for the regular gas truck not diesel? Any information is appreciated from anyone who has had a 2010 RAM or close as I need to make a decision on buying in a few days.

thanks!

My 2010 has been rock solid, have about 196,000 on it and all I've needed was exhaust bolts, a fuel pump, idler pulley, one front wheel bearing and a heater core. Browse thru the forum, exhaust manifolds bolts and the heater core clogging seem to be the more common issues. Some have had trans issues, usually the valve body, and some have had issues with the cam and lifters if it's a 5.7, although 2010 doesn't seem to be as common as the later years for the cam.

My 12 at 160k has also been rock solid. I was talking to the parts manager at the dodge dealership today. I told him about how great mine had been. We got to talking about all of the issues and he told me the 09-12s were the best ones that were made. I said so back when Dodge was still making it pre Fiat and he just shook his head. I would definitely let a independent shop look it over really good. Also just so you know 09-12 parts like seat tracts are na now. Parts manager said they started fazing out parts in 2018. That is something else to think about.

I have a 09 1500 4x4, 4.7 engine. 109,000 mi , I really like it! I have replaced frt brakes, calipers, waterpump, bilstein 5100 frt an most of frt bushings. Some of items were have-to some by choice. Plan on keeping it.

Depends on gears, the 3.55 with the 545 rfe is junk, the shift points equals bad mileage and not efficient, too much low rpm travel. If it has 3.92's, it would be close to the best truck ever the 6 speed rfe a little better 2011/2012. Now, at that price, you could opt for 3.92's are better gears, maybe 3500 or so ask locally what they want for that.

The weakness is the cam, make sure at warm idle no tick, which is basically a knock.
