“Right there is the 36 pintastar. We not really interested in that v6” LOL. I need more of this guy!

People are going to quit buying rams if we keep posting this kind of stuff.

It's more common on overseas vehicles.
If you think about it, more people are likely to check the oil level if it's on the dashboard than if they have to open the hood

Do you fill it by a gauge reading from E-F like your fuel, where do you fill the oil to add, or is it the oil last for the life of the oil!!!

This is just me personally, but I'm not a mechanic, so...

When I need to add engine oil I don't use the little dipstick tube,
I cheat by using the larger hole lurking under the 710 fill cap. :Big Laugh:

An engine oil level sensor could be nice as an addition to the
dipstick, but not in place of it. Maybe this is the direction we are heading? Is this change because the "modern man" of today does
not know about a dipstick?

Hey - why did they move the smilies?

Found the smilies, and apparently where they can be found is heavily dependent on my chosen text size. Weird.

Lots of vehicles have already gone this route (my buddy's Alfa Stelvio - a Stellantis product - doesn't have an oil dipstick). The HEMI is an old block so has a dipstick. As new engine designs come out fewer and fewer DIY items are on it.

Corporate will say that it prevents the owner from incorrectly adding fluid (type, amount, etc.) that could lead to major damage. Realistically many will not waste the time to figure it out and pay the dealership for the service or, better yet for corporate, trade it in sooner since they can no longer easily to work on the car at home.

Ironically, my bud just had his dipstick tube replaced on a 2024 ram. Noticed a pool of oil under his truck Thursday. Took it to the dealer Friday and it was replaced with new. One potential leak point has been removed. You should be thanking ram.

Hmmm, I do a PMCS type of check on my truck every 2 weeks. The only thing not checked would be tranny level, but I do a visual on all parts and drivetrain to see any possible issues (leaks). No oil dipstick, wholly crapola "Batman".

There's lots on this forum that are meticulous about checking fluid levels like yourself. Sadly there's a lot of drivers that wouldn't know when to change the oil unless there's a warning on the dash or dealership service writer tells them it needs to be done while the vehicle is in for repairs.
Loosing the oil level dipstick is no worse than not having a manual transmission

You still add oil and change the oil. You just can't read the oil level from under the hood - you have to read it from the EVIC now.

My neighbor is a tech for Audi. No trans dipstick or fill plug and no engine dipstick. When 'Lo Oil" comes on, you take it to a dealer to add oil.

Was just going to post this. Audi, Mercedes, some BMW engines, Volvo, all don't have trans or oil dipsticks.

I'm ok with the ZF8 not having a dipstick. But engine oil on a truck, especially work trucks used in the field, it's kind of needed.

Maybe the aftermarket will come out with a solution.

I had a '92 Ford Aerostar with a 3.0 that had a low oil light come on when it was one quart low. But, it also had a dipstick so you knew not to underfill/overfill.

Just put an add oil light and leave the dipstick....
