Hi all,
For my last two trucks (2017&2021) I was able to put my VIN into Ramtrucks.com and get the actual ratings for the truck.
I can't find that feature any longer, is it no longer available?

Depends on the gears, but if it is a reg cab 1500 1800 in the bed and less then 5k pounds towing depending on your gears, that is for the 3.21's. Add 2500 pounds towing if 3.55.

IDK if this link will work. On Pg 21 they give towing/hauling specs, per build:

Ironically, they don't show a single "picture" of a regular cab truck . You know where the bread is buttered these days..lol

Your payload is found on the yellow sticker on the drivers side door.

Your GCWR is found in the Ram towing guides. You have to match your cab, box length, 4x4, gear ratio, and engine. These charts also include payload but those payload figures are higher than what you actually have on your door sticker because the charts don't account for the weight of added features whereas the door sticker does. So for payload, always use the door sticker, its the most accurate.

So if you have the 3.21, looks like your max trailer weight is 4530 lbs.
If you have the 3.55, 7080 lbs

Thanks guys. I didn't realize how much of a difference those 3.21 gears make.
My new Outback can tow almost as much.

I am able to see mine, but you can also take the vin to the dealer and they will give you a printout of all the specs for your truck.

I doubt your Outback uses the same towing standard, all pickups these days use the j2807 standard. So you can't compare those numbers to the Outback.

Even so, your truck just has a mid sized v6 and weighs a lot compared to the Outback, power to weight ratio still matters.

I know where you are coming from, but I bet you would notice a big difference in towing a trailer at the max Outback rating and then hooking that exact trailer up to the Ram. The V6 and 3.21 gears are what are limiting the rating on the Ram, so just power but not the handling/stability/braking. I bet the Ram would feel WAY more comfortable and controlled cruising down the freeway at 60+ mph.

The chart is below. Your max tow weight is 8670.

As the chart says, these are estimated values. You cannot exceed your payload (look at the yellow door sticker). More than likely you are like the rest of us, you cannot really tow much more than 7000 to 8000 pounds once you add your family and cargo to your truck and fill up your trailer.

A typical travel trailer puts about 13% of its weight on the bed of your truck. 7000 * 0.13 = 910, say 950 once you include your weight distributing hitch which you also need at those weights. Then add your weight and the weight of your wife, say another 400 pounds. Add two kids and/or a dog and you quickly bump up against 1500 to 1600 pounds which is typical payload for a truck like yours (again, exact payload is in your drivers side door frame).

It's less about max tow (GCWR), and more about the weight you're putting in your truck (payload/GVWR). You will almost always exceed GVWR before GCWR.

In some of the other charts over the years similar to the one you’ve posted, I’ve read that the 300lbs passenger weight is included in the payload. Some don’t specify. Always wondered if that’s true or not.

The 300 pounds would be for the j2807 towing (GCWR) only.

Payload is always GVWR - base weight. Base weight does not include driver, passengers, or cargo, but does include all the options shipped from the factory (including stuff like running boards and tonneau cover if your truck was shipped from the factory like that). It also includes full weight of fluids/fuel.

So take your truck from the factory, fill it full of gas. That's your base/curb weight. Now take your GVWR and subtract base weight, that's your available payload. Every pound you put in, including driver/passengers, comes off the available payload. GVWR doesn't have to do anything with towing, though it might, it could just be you putting stuff in your bed. Its a separate standard from towing. But if you do tow then you have to include the tongue weight from the trailer too.

When it comes time to tow a trailer we also need to stay under GCWR; GCWR = gross combined weight rating, that is the weight of your truck + trailer added together. The J2807 standard allows 300 pounds for your driver/passenger.

It does get a little confusing. 300 pounds has to get deducted from your payload (GVWR) if that's what you and your wife weigh together, but your GCWR allows 300 pounds so that first 300 pounds doesn't get deducted for GCWR.

You are correct, they no longer have that page. No clue if they are going to put it back.

You use to be able to put your own or any vin , or one you were building into it. It would give you towing and payload.

As other people mentioned , it should be on drivers door, the yellow sticker.

Do you know something the rest of us don't? :p

Fair enough, I did round up a little, apparently the avg American is 180 pounds with men being 200 and women being 160.

Not me though. I'm well past 6 feet and have a BMI of 19.1, time for me to eat another hamburger or three I guess.
