Is it difficult to replace rear ball joints yourself? Also, if I decide to replace control arms, are ball joints already in place on new control arms? Is that easier?

Are you talking about front or rears?

Front lower controls arms are more work than rears. How easy depends on the tools/skills you have and your idea of what 'difficult' is. Go to Youtube & type in Ram control arms (front/rear..whatever you are talking about), and watch a few videos. Evaluate if you think it's a job for you. Don't forget it'll take a lot longer and be tougher than most videos represent.

If you like doing mechanical things (or wanted to learn), both are certainly doable as a home DIY project ..esp if you don't mind getting a little dirty, and spending some $$ on tools you may not have. Rear control arm 'links' are pretty easy and straight forward. Front lower control arms will take more time and be tougher. You have to factor your time in too. If you don't get any satisfaction out of doing DIY things and esp mechanical projects, and only want to save money, I'd call around and get estimates from other shops. Its super easy and common for a shop to do. You can buy parts at RockAuto.com or Amazon pretty reasonable.

Make sure you don't skimp on a set of jackstands and a jack. If you skimp on safety and get hurt, then it would be better left to a shop.

Oh.... YES, front lower control arms do come with ball joints. Here you can see a selection. Figure $115 ea for decent middle-of-the-road quality Delphi's.

If your front lower control arms (ball joints) are bad, consider what the upper control arm ball joints look like too. They might be on the edge as well, and it probably makes sense to do both at the same time...and then get a front end alignment (needed esp after upper ball joint replacement).
