04 Ram 5.9 Cummins here, 240,000 miles and bone stock. This year this truck has begun experiencing long crank times after parked overnight. It's getting worse. I just returned from a 3,000 mile trip and it runs perfectly other than the occasional long crank issue, usually first thing in the morning. Once it lights it runs perfectly. I'm getting strong fuel volume (don't know pressure) from the in-tank pump but still no start.

I'm suspicious of my intake warmer because one morning on my trip I woke up to 20 degrees and used a generator to supply the block heater for two hours before it would start. This morning it wouldn't start and it was low 40s. It started this evening finally and it was 65 degrees out.
Batteries are 4 years old but I keep them up with a 25 watt solar charger when parked and they crank fast.

I don't know what I can do before I just take it to a diesel shop Monday before I get stuck off-road somewhere. Any and all ideas appreciated!

Have you tried running some fuel injector cleaner?
You may have a little issue with starting at 20°F but 40°s and above there shouldn't be.

I ran double dose of Hot Shots Secret and then Power Service for the last 2000 miles.

I don't know if thes engines have GLOW plugs like others but it sounds like the pre heat cycle isn't working ! i use to have a F450 diesel and several chevy as well over the years and so when the heat system is not working correctly you get hard start or long crank issues

Glow plugs on a Cummins engine are as elusive as muffler bearings or blinker fluid.. LOL
The milder temps the OP is having starting issues with shouldn't really cause an issue with a Common Rail injection system. If the grid heater isn't working up to stuff could add to troubled starting.

If you really suspect the grid heater they are a relatively cheap and easy fix. I'd go with that and also get or borrow a pressure gauge and test the fuel pressure at the rear of the filter. My old girl has over 250K on it and really doesn't like anything below 40°F either. Good luck
