Did you try an original Apple cable? I also had cheap aftermarket cable that wouldn't do anything (not even charge) but when I used an oem cable it worked.

5th - Are you running a custom engine tune?
Sorry for intruding, but how does engine calibration affect the head unit issues? Just really interested, rewriting original pcm would alter some parts of it, but for this to have such impact…

On the diesel some tuners use an older base tune file and it can cause issues. First hand experience with it myself.

I have a 2017 2500 Laramie Limited and recently purchased a 2021 8.4 Uconnect radio, an adapter and new usb media hub. No Carplay and no charging of my Iphone. Everything else works on the new Uconnect radio. Any help is appreciated. Is there a setting? I purchased a new "Apple" cable, tried 2 different media hubs, 2 different adapters, and also another 2021 radio. So, I am at a loss.

Thanks
Is the uconnect from a ram classic or 5th gen ram? I’ve noticed the same issue with my uconnect from a 2019 5th gen. It’s still the “one piece” radio but is the Delphi radio. It charges my phone and will request my phone to allow car play to be used while locked. I’ve installed a compass media hub pn 5XG28DX9AD I purchased on amazon. Does your aux or usb icon show in media? Mine will only show Bluetooth unless I unplug the Media hub then aux will come up.

Wondering if there’s some other step we need to take to make these operate.

Note: my reverse camera also states unavailable.

Hope we can figure this issue out. As spending the money on this stuff isn’t fun if it don’t work! Haha

Cheers

Known issue. Get a 4th Gen RAM 18-21 4c radio.

What's the word @ramchuck ?

ok thought I should update, 2017 Ram 2500 Limited 8.4 Uconnect. I purchased a 2021 Uconnect 8.4, tried 2 different adapters, 2 different USB hubs, and no carplay, and no phone charging, and also the Ebay seller replaced the 2021 with another 2021 radio, so I tried 2 of everything. All of the truck functions and features work fine, and due to the screen resolution, my cameras look much better. Again if I do not use the "adapter" and plug in the original usb, the phone will charge, and the radio displays USB not supported.

Reach out to Mpgrimm2 that posted a response three posts above this one. He is the resident expert here and has the knowledge and add ons that may help you out. It appears you may have the wrong radio.

OK, Carplay is working, as a follow-up, and after more than a month, I found out that I had the "wrong" USB hub, the one I purchased 5XG280X9AD, was not working, so I was told I needed the adapter with a serial number ending in"C". Anyway, I put in the adapter ending with C, and still no Carplay, so frustrated I put the one ending in "D" back in and it connected and has been working since. So I don't know why, all of a sudden, the originally purchased adapter started and continues to work but, thank God for small miracles.

Good to hear everything worked out. I am just about to go through the whole process myself. I was told to stay away from Harmon units they can give you issues. The Panasonic was better. I have not idea if that true or not, but I saw in your pics you purchased a Harman Kardon . Glad your up and running, I need to source that hub in Canada.

I bought a new Panasonic unit to put in my 2017 Ram Sport (it had the 8.4 Harman unit in it originally). The new Panasonic unit # is 68331635AM, and the part number for my new media hub is 68328704AC. I bought an adapter harness, checked the pinouts and verified conductivity on all the wires. All of the soft controls for the truck work great on the new unit. The only thing I can't get to work is carplay. Oddly enough, when I go to the phone projection settings, it shows the phone I am trying to connect with the carplay icon, and "enable carplay" is checked. But there is no carplay icon at the bottom of the screen, so, no carplay. I have attached a pic of the projection settings where you can see the plugged in phone is active (not greyed out) and enabled, but there is no carplay icon to enable the carplay mode. Any thoughts? @Mpgrimm2 IMG_1772.jpg
Also... while the car seems to see the carplay phone, the phone doesn't see the car. I've tried it with different iphones of different generations, stock lightening cables, stock lightning cable with apple ordained lightning to usb-c connector, ios 16, ios 17, you name it. I tried a wireless carplay adapter, and the ram sees it fine, and my phone see it as well, but it won't complete the connection, which I suspect is what's happening wired. I did notice I never get any carplay permissions requests on my phone. Carplay is enabled (it's not turned off in the screentime settings), and I have done a reset of the system with the battery of the vehicle unplugged for 30 min... I've tried turning the phones off and on... you know, all the stuff you read online.
