Possible Causes
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve
- Faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Solenoid
- Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve carbon blockage
Description
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (
EGR) valve recirculates exhaust gas to the engine intake for increased efficiency, lower fuel consumption, and reduced NOx emissions. The valve changes the air's chemical makeup by adding exhaust gas, which dilutes the mixture and lowers combustion temperatures, resulting in less NOx production. The valve has two primary settings: open and closed, depending on the engine's power requirements.
EGR valves can also improve combustion efficiency, reduce pumping losses, and decrease diesel knock at idle.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Engine Control Module (
ECM) detects
EGR flow or movement when it is not expected.
How to Fix
Check the 'Possible Causes' listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.
i think that this is a video that covers replacement
These AWESOME HEMI 5.7 V8 monsters sometime need NEW EGR solenoids. I show YOU how to replace one on this Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi.
