So a few months ago I noticed my truck hesitating on startup it’s a 15 ram with 25k. Time for a battery anyways and I though it was the problem so replaced it. It still confined to do it until recently. I’m trying to figure out if it was engine related or maybe that new battery had sat and ir took the alternator helping it for a bit? What else would ir have been injectors? I also had been running 87 octane in it and started going to 89. Any idea guys?

If the truck does short trips it's possible the battery hasn't been fully charged up. Try putting a charger on the battery overnight.
Hesitation on start up could also be contributed to fuel quality and weather change.

Winter gas started about a month ago, this often causes hesitation. Hemi's are tuned to 89, so you really shouldnt run 87. My station only has 87 and 91, I run 91 my truck runs like a ***** ape on it, it hesitates on 87 very much.

Gas, air and spark. First run codes see if anything shows up. I wouldn't imagine spark issue, sounds like you will get new battery, I wouldn't expect anything else here with so few miles. Check air cleaner, perhaps change filter, look around for oil. Check and clean throttle body, easy dyi, you don't really need to take it off, but if you take it off your combustion chamber wont have to burn the crude, no big deal either way.

You can tell that piston top below pic is being cleaned in the right place, outside near and around the rings.

The best way to clean injectors is PEA detergent, redline si-1 and amsoil pi have the highest % of PEA, royal purple fuel additive honorable mention and the most popular is techron, I prefer redline, this is a ram forum members pic of cylinder top after running redline si-1. You can tell, it will likely need more then one, but you can also tell is cleans. The best time to run this is in the three tanks before an oil change, you don't really want to run this on fresh oil, this carbon doesnt just disappear, some of it ends up in oil and some gets burned out the exhaust.

This is combustion chamber yes, but PEA is the only thing that realy cleans injectors through the gas. Gas by itself is a solvent, so adding some random solvent which like 1/2 the cleaners do is only going to be so effective, you need a "detergent" and PEA is the known one for injectors.

Try running some fuel injector cleaner through the gas system. You could also check you spark plugs.

I see Burla beat me about the injectors.

Basically five min trips maybe a little longer. Possible battery had been sitting and I thought I had same issue even with new battery it seems to hve come out of it but I thought everything from my ODBII Bluetooth ect.

I will try this if it continues I almost feel like it was the battery sitting snd the alternator finally getting it charged up. I’ll also remember the 89 I had read it in here before.

I can tell winter grade is here. I ended up adding Lucas octane booster on this fill up with 89. Truck seems a lot better. The previous two tanks were bad. I get gas from the same Exxon station.

Should I try that I’ve ran 87 quite a bit guess I forgot it should be 89. Not doing any harm right? So next time I fill up throw octane booster in?

I’m starting to get this again the battery isn’t more than a year or two old. Is it possible the injectors would do it? It’s fine after first start but if it sits a night almost feels like it’s hesitating. Not sure if my broken manifold studs would cause that?

Did you check the battery, age don't mean much, I still have my factory one in my 2014.
about 80,000 km.
Is it firing right up when starting or is it turning over a bit before starting? fuel pump could be getting tired. Load test the battery, or at least put a meter on it it when siting, starting, and running. Exhaust man. should have no effect on starting.

So how many miles on the truck now?, you must not drive it much

That is amazing. Pretty rare for one to last that long.

Drive it once a day…2015 with 46k….it’d not like it’s turning over its starting bout sounds like a hesitation before it gets fully started. I almost want to say it seems worse first start of the day if I turn key real fast instead of giving it a few dings from the dash.

Maybe this is what I need to do as I’ve never done typos before to the truck.

It always sits in the garage, and temp never changes much, Retired for 10 ys now so not a lot of driving, thou I put 600 on few days ago. I had a 3 ton truck with a class 27 battery, huge thing. it made about 25 yrs before started to get tired. The thing with farms and battery's is garden tractors, small mowers, those little things would need battery every year, but the p.o.s. things cost about 29.oo so guess that is about all you could expect.
Had a 1975 vintage MF combine that run the same battery to 2009, Perkins diesel motor.
Just used for a few weeks in the fall.

So I can try this….its not like it’s going to hurt anything to try it right just do it before an oil change? Or can this screw something up?

Conundrum, doing nothing will eventually screw up injectors and combustion chamber, cleaning it can be risky especially is cleaned fast, clogged filter can tank an engine or gum up plugs and/or cats. Best answer, use an effective cleaner that has proven to clean slowly? You want an absolute answer if anyone gives you a guarantee one they are lying, so do your research and come up with a strategy. You have a problem, in my opinion the best way to fix it clean everything that comes in as in throttle body side of it and clean injectors, combustion chamber, pcv, etc. Adding si-1 is like adding 20 times the detergent level of techron gas, while adding techron bottle is like adding 10 times the amount of detergents. If you read the threads, even this amount cleans very slowly, but clearly it cleans. Run 91 for a while, report back, Costco has some nice cheap 91 that will pair nicely and run a full bottle of si-1/.

When I say hesitate it’s not like it turning over and not starting. It’s like a split second hesitation and I don’t think my battery is bad. Only few years old and honestly wondering if it is the manifold leak that may be embellishing it. Kinda don’t like your saying it could do harm

I know you guys stated Shell has best gas. I’ve never worried where I got gas and honestly been running 87 because numerous threads say that is fine. Also read that manual says 89 and I’ve done that a few times. Maybe try 91 and see if it stops it? Like I said it’s not bad not like the engine is turning over and not starting, but with my ear a minuscule hesitation which maybe I’m hearing the manifolds?
