I don't check the oil level on the last 2 trucks very often , as I don't put very many miles on any more.
Never had to add oil on these, but over the years ,lots of motors needed top up between oil changes. People have lost motors because they never checked oil and never look at the dash till the gas light comes on. One lady did not know what the red light was for, so she ran till it stopped, then pissed when warranty never covered the new motor.
Son in law worked in shop for a while, kid changed oil in customers car/ truck, I forget what it was , and he never checked the filter, and blew the gasket, that motor lasted 3 blocks in town.
Shop paid for a new motor, oil kid walked , likely works at Wal-Mart now.
Changing oil and never running and checking is just asking for trouble.
I don't remember changing oil on a cold motor in my all my years of oil changes, sometimes its a hassle, I have let it sit a bit till exhaust is not so hot depending on motor.
Better check the dipen stick, sound wrong.
