I figured I would ask this now vice waiting until I have an issue.

Since I live in the devil's ****hole, and yesterday was the coolest day we've had in 6 weeks at 109°, I know that eventually I will need to replace my battery - probably in the next couple of years. This truck is one giant spaghetti nest of electronics, so when I do put a new battery in is it just as simple as disconnecting the old one and dropping in the new one? I mean, is there anything special I need to do like chant a mantra and toss a horseshoe over my shoulder, or something? Will all my settings stay, like my radio pre-sets and whatnot?

Thanky kindly.

I would consider using one of these devices to maintain all of my personal settings.
Sticking to the $10-$20 range.

Also, a reset to the IBS is advisable during a battery change.

I replaced my battery 1.5 years ago. Removed old, installed new, tightened terminal connectors and that was that. I didn't lose any settings of note. I didn't do anything else, so clearly the computer(s) recognized the new battery or at very least it didn't matter.

Interesting, I'll research this. I would think that, at most, after the new battery is installed just put the ignition to 'Run' and let it sit for a few minutes while the computer reads the voltage of the new battery.

I just replaced mine 2 months ago. It died. I jumped it with
my battery charger and drove to Battery Warehouse (they had one in stock).

They guy had the old one out and the new one in, I'd guess to total time without power was less than 5 minutes.

My dashboard displays and all electronics behaved as if it never happened. I put it on a trickle charge overnight, just because.
No issues.

Mine is a 4th Gen FWIW. And I burned through 2 batteries in 10 years with this one being #3.

You would think so, but there are many proponents of resetting the IBS as a SOP.

You will find lots to read and ponder if you search IBS reset here at RF.

When I bought my last Silverado in Oct 1999, it came with a 9-year ACDelco battery. That battery died in Oct 2008, 9 years to the month. I bought a replacement battery at WM in Oct 2008 that had an 8-year warranty. That battery lasted until Oct 2016, 8 years to the month when I replaced it with another WM battery, but that battery only had a 4-year warranty as I couldn't find anything longer. I sold that truck in Mar 2023, after 23.5 years of driving and it was still on that 2016 4-year battery.

I had 3 batteries in 23.5 years, including the original. Why can't they make batteries like that anymore?

LOL

The second last battery in my Tundra lasted 8 years too, I think it was a Johnson Controls.

It does make you wonder.

I edited my above post to reflect that the second replacement battery only had a 4-year warranty, but it was still in the truck when I sold it 6+ years later.

My OEM battery just died after almost 6 years about 2 months ago and all I did was remove the old one and put in a new one. All settings were retained and it only took a few drive cycles for for everything to sync back up. Cleared the code for the check engine light and did a soft reset on the radio to get all my options back. Back to normal the same day.

Why did you have a check engine light?

I don’t know. When I went to crank it the truck wouldn’t start but I would get the usual you battery is old symptoms. I took out the battery tester I have and it indicated 220 CCA vs the 730 CCA required. I also had the charging system fault light (lightning bolt). The check engine light remained for some reason so I cleared it. Since then I haven’t had any issues at all. Truck drives and starts normal and the infotainment system is normal.

Bought my 2016 1500 5.7L in 2017. We relocated to Belize in 2018. Since then, I have replace the battery twice. The last time was July 2024. Down here, the batteries have an 18 month full warranty, no prorated warranty thereafter. With the heat and humidity factor in Belize, if I get 3 years or more from a battery I am doing good I am told. Just have to adjust to the environment, heat, and climate.

Where in BZ are you located? I've been down there several times and bounced all over the place. I really like the Punta Gorda area, but it was a bit remote for me.

The factory battery in my 19' died after a few years so I decided to upgrade to the H8 AGM Interstate battery.
It was here that I learned from those experienced members that the H8 upgrade even existing for our trucks.

Removed the connectors, switched the battery, fired her up and went for a drive. Zero issues, zero lights!

I highly recommend the H8 upgrade for our trucks!

It did work well, for a while, and then it left me stranded. It was less than a year old at the time. However, not being close to the nearest Interstate battery shop, frustrated, late for a site meeting that I had to inevitably cancel, I just decided to head to the local Odyssey dealer that was a quick uber away.

I brought the Interstate with me, left it there for the core charge, and picked up a new H8 AGM Odyssey in its place.

In hindsight I should have taken the Interstate back and got it replaced and just gave it to someone in need (as was pointed out by friends here). I was grumpy A-_F and didn't care at the time, unfortunately.

Moving forward though, the Odyssey has proven to be a superior battery overall vs the Interstate in terms of its output on startup, it's ability to sustain with virtually zero pulsing when I'm driving with my 2100W audio system in full swing, and its draw characteristics when sitting static as my security and camera systems draws form it.

I've gone on seven night trips, I get back, and my truck fires up like lightening.

Needless to say, when I purchased my new Warlock less than six months ago, I had their service dept take my H8 Odyssey out of my 19' and put it in my new truck before I took delivery. No way I was leaving this battery in my trade in!

We are in Cayo District, Pine Ridge Preserve area in the mountains, not too far from San Ignacio and Spanish Lookout.
I stayed a couple nights in San Ignacio. Don't remember the name of the place, but it was a nice hotel at the top of a really steep street, right next to a casino. I also stayed a week on a couple of occasions at a friend's house close to Billy White. He had 15 acres of coconuts and oranges right along the Belize River. Very peaceful.

It all depends on whose "magic pookie" one chooses for their car/truck! ;)
