I got a 2010 2500 but it needs a front Driveshaft. Right now I drive on 2wd and I guess without it I not going to be able to use 4wd lock and 4wd low. I don't know much about these machines but digging around it seems that the driveshafts could be different lengths. How do you find out what length do I need? Why would those be removed and does the length matter if the truck is lifted?

the shaft is removed, as in gone? If not, why not just rebuild it?

Removed, Gone.
Hmmm. Well thats odd as hell. Why? They have been known to seize up if the joints are not greased periodically and often take out the tcase when doing so. Have you looked up under there ?

You could go to a junkyard and pull one from a similar model year truck. Rear shaft lengths change with different cab/box configurations, but the fronts should be the same (as long as same trans). If its in rough shape, just rebuild it.

Or if you are lifted quite a bit, might be better off taking measurements and just have a custom shaft company build you one.
