I own a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. I think it is a 2.9 liter. The air bag light came on this morning...and stayed on. The chime was intermittent. I have not hit anything, nor come to any sudden stops. My seat belt was fully engaged and no passenger in the seat next to me.
I contacted my mechanic and he said "maybe it's a warranty issue due to being a safety concern"...he wouldn't look at it. He also said "it's sort of safe to drive" which made me feel very uneasy. The truck isn't under any kind of warranty considering its age. So I contacted a dealer who wants $200.00 to "check it out" but wouldn't say what he would be checking.
Any ideas on what it could mean and estimated cost to fix? I will have to save over a few months to get any extra money for repairs as I am on social security. I can get alternative transportation in the meantime from neighbors/friends.
