......creating an “American-owned” Chrysler Corporation. The new entity would have Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram under its umbrella and would focus “not only on profits but also on the people who build these cars”, with workers becoming part-owners.

Odd, ok I appreciate the correction, when I saw the news on a few videos they (and the guy himself) only mentioned Chrysler/Plymouth.

Jeep and Ram are the money when it comes to the American brands from Stellantis. I don't care what names they save or if they shuffle products to different brands, but I would be sorry to see the Jeep Wrangler/GC and Ram's disappear.

Sounds like someone's having a mid-life Chrysler...

Stellantis says "No thanks" and he's butthurt they responded to the media but not to him. He's like the guy with thirteen cents in his bank account pestering somebody at the car show about buying their fully restored passion project. It's not for sale and you don't have any money if it is.

You don't need money to buy anything, just good credit, or know someone that has money...lol

"Tavares has referenced the company's “arrogance” in discussing some of the issues, pointing to either production problems or excess inventory. He has cited problems at a couple of U.S. plants, without being too specific."

So on one side of his mouth he has suggested that "some brands" could go away if not returned to profitability, yet on the other side of his mouth he portrays reluctance to let these assumed dog brands called Chrysler and Dodge go to a buyer. Where was Tavares when the decision was made to abandon sedans without viable, less EPA burdened SUVs or subcompacts in the waiting? The Chrysler 300, despite initially strong sales, received next to little attention through the build and they gave up too early with the 200 and Dart. Slowly they backed themselves into a niche market corner with high performance, EPA-unfriendly cars and light trucks.

Ford may not be making a lot of margin on their bottom end, high mileage sedans and SUVS, but at least its enough to make good CAFE ratings and keep them from buying EPA credits from Tesla.

That's very true, but even that isn't the full problem. They simply quit putting any money into C-D-J and not much into Ram. You can cut your way to profitability in the short term, but you can't cut your way to growth. They simply got passed over as they shoved too much money at Italian brands that aren't selling that strongly anywhere and ignored Jeep, etc.

Jeep's affordable entry lineup was slashed as they tried to move it upscale to a near luxury vehicle. Didn't work. Chrysler hasn't seen an actual new product since, what, 2015? Dodge hasn't seen a new product, either, or even new features other than reshuffling. Look at a new Mustang's interior then look at a Challenger's.

GM and Ford have caught up on truck interior quality and ride comfort. What's Ram's differentiator now? Not cheaper. Not more luxurious. Not more powerful. Not better equipped. The RHO instead of a TRX while the F-150 Raptor has the R? C'mon.

Jeep didn't even bother with 35" from the factory until Bronco started eating more of their sales. What's the motivation to buy a new Rubicon if you have an 8 year old Rubicon? What's better?

You are correct about lack of investment in the North American brands. Stellantis was using their admittedly cash cow American brands to bolster European nameplates and to fund the sudden push for EVs. While CDJR was providing revenue despite buying EPA credits, everything was fine. Now Tavares blanket command to not buy credits has caused a contraction in models and sales.

While he squeezes the North American divisions to increase profits while underfunding them, Tavares hasn't seemed to notice that intact North American divisions are required to finance the rest of Stellantis. It's almost equivalent to starting a two-front war on a continent.

I don't know about that. I've been in a 2024 F150 and I didn't think it rode as well as my '19, and neither did the owner. The Ford still as too much hard plastic in the interior.

Likewise the new Silverado does have improved ride, but I still would rate the interior as bland, at least in the trim levels I've seen.

In standard engine form the new 2025 is very completive in power, and of the two reviews I've seen the Ram, even in Tradesman trim, has set a new standard in interior noise levels.

Trim levels likely matter. I shopped everything but was looking at higher offroad oriented trims. Silverado ZR2 is nuts over terrible roads at speed, a controlled float and the 6.2/10A is a great pair. Skid plate package sucked, tiny fuel tank, etc. knocked it out of the running for me but ride quality was definitely top shelf.

To me, Ford's interior screens with the landscape orientation are more useful than Ram's giant portrait screen that you can use half of. Controls were logically laid out. Cooling for the seats is *way* better than Ram's ventilated. You get high in the trims and I'm not sure what hard plastics you're seeing. Ram may still win in most trims depending on what you value, but it's hard to deny the gap has closed dramatically. 10 years ago, nobody was even close.

The only reason I stayed with Ram is the Power Wagon. 1/2 ton, there's no way I'd buy a Rebel over an F-150 Tremor. Ford has a better transfer case, factory winch option, Torsen front diff, etc. But, the PW is a thing so I stuck with Ram and am quite happy with it. We'll see what they do, but given how few PWs are on the lot compared to Rebels in the 2500, I'm wondering if the PW doesn't get cut at some point.

That would be great, right now it's headed for the agenda full steam. Slow down on the switch to electric cars and bring back a better Hemi !

Glad I kicked the processed sugar habit. I can't be on some Snickers Payment Plan/Layaway. I have other expensive habits to fund.
