I accidentally broke one off, (I had the impact driver switched the wrong way:banghead:) I couldn't drill the piece out, try drilling a metal screw in plastic! I drilled all around it, got the broken piece out, filled it with JB Weld, then drilled it out and went with a wood screw. The flap that...
You have other options. You could short block it, that's new lower portion of the motor, block, and internals, and just transfer your heads, intake, and other externals. Might save you some money. Consider a valve job while the heads are off.
Hmmm, maybe I do want the Challenger tune!:driver::cool:
Yes, it's all in my other thread https://www.ramforum.com/threads/5-45-rfe-swap-to-manual-computer-issues.208197/
I guess it really doesn't matter, the motor/trans don't know what they're in, right! I was concerned that other systems would be affected, but I don't think other systems are controlled by the same computer.
Heck, I just saw a Chrysler 300 computer that looks identical to my truck computer.
Thank you, I will try to contact him.
Thank you. I was planning a trip to my local salvage yard and I know they have connections to a network of other yards.
A good friend is a parts department manager and has worked at a couple dealerships. I was planning to go see him and see what I can find...
I am trying to open up all my options. Re-flash is $600 from B&G Performance, does anybody know another shop? I'm a little concerned about what other issues will appear, but I guess either way could cause other issues. Hopefully AlfaObd would fix them. Luckily the truck is off the road all...
As stated. 4th gen manual with gas engines are pretty rare. The simplest way to do a manual trans swap is to get a manual trans truck computer. Every search I do comes up with a Cummins computer which won't work. The search will be much easier if I have a good part number.
Thanks in advance.
The pinion seal won't cause howling. Worn gears do. Get the weight off the rear wheels and see if you can move the flange in any direction. If you can plan a rear diff rebuild or replacement. At the very least pull the cover and look things over, or have someone who knows what it should look...
I'm coming from the semi-truck side. Many dealers and aftermarket jobbers have cleaning services for the DPF using compressed air, as long as it was not plugged up too badly and destroyed. They can collapse internally and then need replaced.
There are utube vids of people cleaning them with...
You could ask them to install a reman engine from an outside source, maybe Jaspar. The rest of the truck warranty would still be good and Jaspar warranties the motor.
Thank you for that. I just talked to the local auto electronics "experts", and they said I would need a computer from a truck with a manual trans (used are over $500) and they would need to reset the vin to mine for about $200. They said they can reflash but only to Dodge oem specs for my vin...
There are 2 shifter mounting points on the Viper trans. I'm fairly sure the rear OEM one is where I want it to be. Hard to make exact measurements but now that I have the trans, I can get pretty close. It needs to be about 28" from the block, the Viper one is 26", I can work with that. I can...
Parts so far;
Used Viper transmission from a '96 $1800.00
Wilwood master cylinder kit, 260-10374 from Summit $96.95
Timken pilot bearing, FC69907 from Summit $14.99
Mcleod flywheel 464400 direct from Mfr...
Things are coming together, picked up my new to me Viper 6 speed, ($1800) clutch master cylinder, ($95), and pilot bearing ($14).
Ordering flywheel and clutch $(1200) tomorrow.
I'm no expert, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express, but seems to me I heard about some bad camshafts or lifters, that were installed. Something about the manufacturing process was not done properly. Also, the failure often happens on the non MDS lifters/cam, which to me rules out MDS as...
Found my truck in N.C., flew down and drove it home. 2011 with only 60k. No rust, exactly what I wanted.
Take your time looking, until you find one you really like.
