Opinion On A Set Of Tires

Something else I've noticed... and this is just what I've observed... is some of the tires by Chinese companies don't seem to dry rot very much. Meaning they tend to last a long time. At least the ones I've seen/had. The worst seems to be Michelin & Goodyear's. The Coopers tout "Silica...

Opinion On A Set Of Tires

The tires which were on my pickup when I bought it (used) were a no-name brand from China. The company was a large company...I looked them up. They were low-ish on tread when I bought the tk, the selling dealership wanted a grand to put on some cheapies, I declined ...lol. I ran the no-namers...

Opinion On A Set Of Tires

How are they giving you such a deal? Are they cost-sharing or something? It's probably a 'wash' between the two tires you listed. If your work is cutting you a deal, guess it can't hurt to try. Just curious if they're also giving you a chance to buy a name brand set with a little more...

Opinion On A Set Of Tires

OTOH... larger tread blocks on the Atlas probably wear longer... even though there is slightly less tread depth, larger tread blocks means fewer air gaps between tread blocks... so maybe it doesn't matter. But smaller tread blocks and more sips generally makes a better snow/winter tire. Just...

Opinion On A Set Of Tires

The treadblocks on the Atlas tires are large...they'd probably be less good in the snow. The Westlakes have a lot more sipes and 1/32" more tread than the Atlas. The tread blocks go all the way too the carcass and are tapered to kick out snow/mud. I'd get those between the two of them. Tread...

Opinion On A Set Of Tires

You're in the mid-to-lower tier of tires with those brands I think. I'm sure they'll work ok. IDK how long the rubber would last. How deep is the tread? Usually with less expensive no-name tires there's a trade-off. Compare their weight to that of other tires, and that there isn't a little less...

    Hvac resetting itself at startup

Oh ok. Sorry, I was thinking it 'didn't' revert back. I know that. I was just trying to explain how the HVAC computer does regular calibration stoking of the dampers (electric motors) to each end-point (full open/Full Cloesd) and it the HVAC module ...basically a little computer, determines...

Not a typical tire question. Load rating/side wall ply questions towing

You didn't mention if the travel trailers (old & new) are bumper or 5th wheel mount. And tongue weight. And how long of a distance you tow the camper. The argument for a 10-ply (rated) tire is a stiffer sidewall should contribute to better handling. Even when not towing. And cooler running...

    2010 4.7 knocking/tapping any thought???

Didn't you say you had a broken exhaust stud? How about removing the Exh manifolds and make sure they're flat....and at least get that resolved (machined or belt-sanded). Just in the outside chance that's what you're hearing?

Transmission Woes (and haven't been on in a while)

OP, you should get ahold of @RamCares . See if they can move things along quicker for you.

    Hvac resetting itself at startup

I think he's saying the truck HVAC *doesn't* return to the same settings upon start-up. My truck stays on the setting it was at previously. If it was on AC before, that's what it start up with next time. I'd be looking for a flaked-out hvac blend door actuator, bad grounds to the hvac...

    Hvac resetting itself at startup

Do you ever hear it trying to recalibrate (a couple times) after it's shut off? Ideally, if you knew someone with a good scanner which they could look at the HVAC...run it through it's paces, to make sure there isn't a failed damper or broken door (like the inside/outside air blend door or...

    Thanks for the add

Well that is a really beautiful looking truck. Red over tan... you're going to love it. If you're in the rust-belt zone, might I suggest investing in some rust-proofing, being that it's a 2017. Wasn't that long ago 2017's seemed real new, but here it is 2024 already! Or, you can shoot some oil...

    What the heck is this?

But your truck's Airbag light *does* come on before you start your truck...when all the other lights come one (to show you they're working), right? I mean the airbag bulb on the dash does work, right?

Lots of Repairs, is it worth it?

Maybe now is a time to evaluate WANTS vs NEED'S. Do you NEED a 3500 dually? IDK what you do....so only you can decide that. If you can get by with something else that works 'enough' and fits in your budget, allows you to get where you want to be money-wise, maybe that's worth considering. But...

    2010 4.7 knocking/tapping any thought???

I should have suggested this before any talk of removing the heads.... You could compress & remove the rockers and investigate the hydraulic lifters. Esp the one you think is suspicious, and see if you can replace it. Keep everything in it's place so you can put back when needed if you reuse...

    What could this be?

I meant ...does the heater core gurgle on a regular basis in the AM when you start the tk and take off to go to work/run errands? It might just be a failed water pump...and that's it. They don't last forever. Hard to say what that substance is. Maybe someone else will chime in who has an idea...

Lots of Repairs, is it worth it?

To me that doesn't sound bad... it depends on what your tolerance is...and what skills if any you can apply to the replacement. And also with it's miles/Km...how long you want to keep the truck? Would the $$ put into 'fixing' it be better put towards something with less mileage? Probably...esp...

    What could this be?

I don't know for sure. Sniff inside the radiator ...see if it smells like combustion gasses. What's the underside of your engine's oil cap look like ..also milky? Have you been hearing any heater core 'girgling' in the morning? Was the truck using coolant in the last month or two? Did you have...

    2010 4.7 knocking/tapping any thought???

If the oil pressure is low, then I'd probably pull the engine and have the heads reconditioned (with new lifters/rockers ...as needed), and address the oil pressure issues (new pump and, or main/rod bearings). Get the exhaust manifolds machined (or buy a belt sander for the cost to machine...

    2010 4.7 knocking/tapping any thought???

It 'does' appear more rounded..by my eye. But that's eye only. Do you have a digital vernier calipers you can rough-measure it with? Maybe go get one from H/F. Make sure you're measuring like lobes (e.g. exhaust vs exh). What does the oil pressure look like? Did you ever put a 'good' gauge on...

    2010 4.7 knocking/tapping any thought???

Ah haaa! You might be on to something. Are you going to mic it out (measure?) to verify?

My Dodge Dealership just called, Ecodiesel Recall Fuel Pump

Yeah, ...that's about what trucks get, like you say, not awful. Plus being 4x4. I make up for it on longer drives with a Jetta diesel. I've 'thought' about maybe getting a diesel Ram. But having the Jetta, I also know diesel fuel (around here anyway) is more expensive, by a fair amt. So you gain...
