I had a 1941 Ford, i was part owner with a Navy buddy, he held the Title
I drove it when ever the Aircraft Carrier left Port, that we had been Ships Company on, i was Discharged while he still had a couple years to Serve.
The motor developed a Cracked Block , i still drove it to fun events.
In 1966, he had some vacation time & we drove up to his Parents home in Portland Oregon from San Diego.
His Dad needed some parts for his car, we drove to a wrecking yard & bought some parts.
Someone spotted a tarp over something, it was among several engine blocks.
The Wrecking Yard owner had been driving Circle Track Racing, Dirt Track.
We started shooting the bull about racing & he said that his wife was going to leave him, if he built another race car.
The tarp was covering a engine that he had just rebuilt.
It was a 1953 Mercury Flathead with a High Stroke Crankshaft, i forget what the Camshaft was.
The Crankshaft may have been from a 1939 Mercury ??
I saved his life & bought that Block
I had a set of Edelbrock Heads & a Sharps 2 Deuce Manifold w/ 2 carburetors.
I had bought them before i discovered the cracked 1941 block.
The 1941 Ford was stolen, while we were up in Portland Oregon.
I paid the Local Kids that found it, the Law, took a report & never even looked for it, it was 3 blocks from where it was stolen from, Someone took it to cruise around & then got scared when they heard we were back in town.
By the way, JEEP Rims fit on that 1941 Ford perfectly
That 1941 Ford was fun, it was very quick off the line
Surprised a couple of fast Chevies, etc.
It was a 2 door, it may have been what they called a Business Coupe, similar to this.
Except it had No Hood & it was mostly Yellow, with a Black Roof
I recall that the whole dashboard was Chrome
It had 4 on the floor & part of the floor board was missing above the transmission
My buddy lost that car, he had stored it with a friend & his friends Landlord had it towed
I had had to move back to Connecticut, to live with family for about a year.
Miss that car !
