I have a 2014 Laramie Longhorn with 8 speed dial-shift transmission. Frequently if I use the steering wheel controls to downshift the system “gets confused” and both up and down buttons will only down-shift further.

The only way out is to turn the shift-dial to neutral and then back to drive. That resetssomething and it begins to shift properly, until it doesn’t again.

Since the neutral/drive twist fixes it, I don’t think it is a steering wheel issue.

Has anyone seen this before or know a solution to the issue?

When the downshift only happens with the buttons, hold the Gear + button down for several seconds, that should reset the ERS. If not, it's probably an issue with the buttons.

I’ve tried holding the button. Sometimes that works, sometimes not.

Anyone have a link to how to R&R the buttons?

You need to take the steering wheel apart.

There is a chance that the wires that go to the steering wheels Clock Spring, have bad connection.

Until you are ready to try to fix it,
you might try slapping the bar on the steering wheel a couple times

check out this video

shows broken wires at 20 minute point
It is way over my head
