So im not complaining but ive noticed Im not getting anywhere near the fuel economy numbers im suppose to get with my Ram 1500 3.6L. What are you guys getting for fuel mileage with the 1500 classic 3.6L 3.21 rears? Im averaging 19.1mpg on the highway.

Combined highway/city I average 18mpg but city for me is suburbs. Highway I average 20-21 mpg at 65mph and above. Straight city I have no idea because I just don’t do too much downtown driving. I have a 2018 with 3:21 gears and a 2 inch front end level with LT275/65R20 tires.

Ok. I might need to get on a longer highway trip to really see the difference.

One thing to note is with our 3.6 and 3:21 gears highway speeds much over 65mph will bump the transmission down to 7th gear from wind resistance, drag and lack of torque. If you have the steering wheel control for gear selection put it on 8th gear and watch it drop as speed over 60-65mph increases even on a level highway. To effectively use 8th gear I pretty much have to stay under 60mph and I do get noticeably better gas mileage keeping it in 8th gear.

My wife drives our 2013 Durango which has the same engine and its full time all wheel drive. It has ~90K miles on it and most (+90%) of her driving is in town and it gets a VERY consistent 17.5 last time I looked and the computer had 2000 miles on it. When we are on the Highway, it typically gets around 20 Mpg with me driving around 70-75 most of the time.

Regards,
Greg

2018 with this setup. 84k on the clock. If I'm running empty, under 65mph on the highway, I can get up to 24.3. I drop about a MPG at 70mph, and drop another MPG at 75mph under the same conditions. 500lbs of cargo on a road trip, 2 adults, dog, running 75mph on the open road, right around 21.5 - 22mpg.

OP...were those numbers hand-calculated per actual gallons used? If not, you might also want to fill up at the same pump for a couple weeks. Keep track of miles and gallons and double-check your truck's computer.

On a vacation trip through the mountains. Hand calculation proved to be within a couple of tenths either way.

I consider my truck a 7 speed, as 8th is worthless where I live. I always lock out 8th, and lock it into whatever gear is needed for where I'm driving. This stops lots of unnecessary gear changes and improves gas mileage.

8th is pretty much useless unless you're on flat ground, unloaded, and no real head wind.

8th is the mileage-mizer gear you want when driving across Texas with a tailwind!
