I am looking to see if my 21 2500 auto dimming should work similarly to my 2018 1500 or if they changed the setting somehow. Both trucks are auto headlights with rain sensing wipers. There is a setting to have the headlights turn on when the wipers are activated. This works fine. The old truck would typically dim the dash and radio when the headlights came on, but it was smart enough to turn off the dimming but leave the headlights on if conditions required and it was bright enough outside. The new truck seems to be either wipers/headlights on dims the radio, or it all shuts off and goes back to normal brightness. Is there a setting I'm missing or is this just how it operates?

that's how it works on my '18 2500. Isn't fun playing the dash brightness game

My no longer-owned 2013 Laramie 1500, my 2015 Longhorn, and my 2022 Longhorn all work the same way with auto headlamps on with wipers. If the dash dimming control is set to no dimming, then the dash lighting never dims with auto headlamps. If the dash lighting dimmer is set to dim, then auto headlamps with wipers will dim the dash lighting.

None of the three RAMs I've had were smart enough to cancel dash dimming based on the presence of ambient lighting. The dimmer switch was always in control.

maybe the old truck was shutting off the headlights and I didnt realize it. Oh well, not the end of the world just a pain to see the radio with sunglasses on.
