Bought a new Ram 1500 this past June. Week later the check engine light comes on. Took it to the dealer, no tech on that day so service rep checked a few things and says it's not serious, should be ok to drive, might even go off on it's own in a day or two.
Sure enough, light goes out a few days later....all good.
Now 5 months later, CEL has come on 5 different occasions. Took it to the shop first 3 times, they read the code(s) cleared and said all is good. 1st time they said it was a software update, 2nd time no reason given. 3rd time service rep tells me it's a rare problem on a few trucks here and there. Tells me not to worry, gives me a copy of "STAR ONLINE PUBLICATION" and case# S2418000012 Rev. A
Symptom/Vehicle issue: Mil on/check engine lamp (CEL) on, engine runs rough.
Bunch of crap on the next page and half about what it is and how to clear. Last page the final line is
"Engineering is investigating at this time. Return vehicle to customer."
So now dealer tells me not to bring it back, they are working on it and will send me a recall notice when they solve it.
My engine is smoooooth, not running rough or any other problem noticed, just that damn CEL light on. Came on again today when I started it to go run an errand.
Seriously this is how Ram takes care of things ? My last three trucks were all Chevy's, but just love the looks of these new Rams. Looks like I'll be going back to Chevy tho, unless they fix this soon.
Already filed a complaint with FCA customer care, they called back to see if I was treated ok, lol. I told the poor girl, I just want my NEW truck fixed, why should I have to put up with this BS. After 5 months my Chevy dealer would of been jumping through hoops to make me happy. Not these Ram guys tho, just go home sir, we will call you when it's fixed, Pathetic is the first word comes to mind.
Now looking to get info on filing a complaint through the government. Wish we had the lemon law here in Canada similar to what you guys have in the US.
I do a lot of winter driving in really remote areas, hard to feel confident with the CEL often on.
New to Ram, my first truck from them, Is this a common thing ? Is customer service always this bad.
