4th Gen Front Bumpers (what fits/doesn't)?

I forgot what fits or doesn't fit for both 1500's and 2500's. And are the brackets all the same or different between 2012/'13's? Mine's a 2012, with black steel bumper. I've seen a few chrome take-off's. Will 2013 and newer bumpers also fit (with the old brackets ..or '13 brackets)? As I recall F bumpers were 2012 and below. I'm not worried about the fog lights, I could always add them if that was the only difference.

I did a few searches, couldn't find those old threads. Can you guys please remind me?

without measuring, the difference that i see between the 2009 - 2012 Dodge Ram 1500
& the
2013 - 2018 Ram 1500
is the Grille & upper valance shape

2009 - 2012 look at the lower corners of the grille & the shape of the grille emblem
as well as the horizontal fog lights


2013 -2018, cut off lower corners & cut off emblem

vertical fog lights


Heavy duty Ram changed some features a year later (2014)
Although the fog lights remained Horizontal

2500 bumpers wont fit 1500's. You looking for oem type stuff or ranch hand? You see the headlights, on the 2500 it is straight across and not raised off bumper line. see the bumper line on the top of the bumper, 2500 straight across...

On 1500s this is a Upper Valance, it fits between the front bumper & the grille

Thanks for the info guys. Reason I ask is there's a guy locally who's got a fairly new stock chrome bumper, he's adamant 1500 bumper's will fit 2009-2014. All my research shows it's 2009-2012 or '13 on up. But I can't remember if the bumper brackets are different or what the differences are. Any more details what the specific differences are.

I think I found most of my answers about key differences between 2012 and 2013 front bumpers.

1) Shape: 2013 and up have a 'dip' on the top middle. The filler panel dips down and the bumper is stamped different along the top front. 2012 and below steel bumpers are straight across (flat).

2) Flange: 2009-2012's have a 1" vertical flange along the top of the stock steel bumper, which the bumper filler panel bolts to. The 2013's and up F bumpers don't have that flange.

3) Backing panel: I read on another post the filler panel which mounts behind the F bumper is a different from 12-13. Shape is different.

4) Bumper Brackets?? - I believe I read there might be differences in the bumper brackets ....but I can't provide any details.

A guy could buy the parts to swap a '13 bumper/filler/grille, etc and some guys have done that. And that looks good. But then you're talking about a lot more work, not just a bumper replacement. Also, the 2013 on up grille's attach differently than the 2012 and below, so a guy would have to fab up metal brackets to make it 'work' (which I could do). But I'm not looking to do a 2013 front end swap.

Ironically, that local guy selling the bumper I mentioned above, looks to be the right one for my truck, other than I would need to add fog lights.

It's possible to swap a new style 2500/3500 from end onto a Gen4 truck.

4th gen to 5th gen style front conversion (idea, pic included)

As we all know the 2019+ 5th gen ram trucks have a new body style, and parts aren't really interchangable between the 2 generations... However, Dodge unveiled their new 2500 and 3500 line up last month, which still uses the 4th gen cab and chassis as far as I understand. So call me crazy...
