What are good, heavy duty front tow hooks for my 2015 Ram 1500 Big Horn? I see what I believe are OEM ones that are like $210 per hook. They don't look very heavy duty. But, maybe they are. I see after-market ones for much cheaper that look the same. What do yall have? And, did you cut out the plastic or buy the replacement pieces that are already cut?

I bought the factory ones but not sure how much they can hold.

You can find them online used for cheaper.

I cut out the plastic with a brand new utility knife and bought a really good one to make it easy to cut. You can also heat up the plastic to make it easier with a heat gun or hair dryer. I then used a Dremel to smooth out the edges.

All in I spent $60 CAD which included the new knife.

I shopped for a set for a few months. I see nothing wrong with the factory hooks, they're plenty heavy duty enough for anything for a 1/2 ton pickup. I think I paid about $350 for a set of OE (one was being sold at a discount because the box was open). I chose to cut out the lower grill insert rather than buy a replacement. I used a utility knife and a Dremel tool and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between it and a new one.

As I understand it the OEM ones are discontinued. There may be some still on the shelf, but that's all. I can only speak for the strength of the OE ones, they're plenty heavy for anything a 1500 has any business doing.

The aftermarket copies are a whole lot lower price.. I'd imagine they're just as strong - OEM and aftermarket both are going to try to make things as cheap as they can get away with and one of the aftermarket ones even claims to use the original forms (likely the same manufacturer, now free to make them for the aftermarket since the OE channel is discontinued)

When I got mine I bought the blackout panels with the hole cut already, that part was something like $25 for the pair. I figured the cost wasn't out of line vs. the time it would take cutting my own & since my truck was brand new I wanted to keep some of that new/flawless look on it for a little while.

But later I put an aftermarket bumper on and made that a moot point.

I see ENIXWILL ones that claim to be the same OEM mold. On Amazon they are $134 for the pair with brakets and bolts. There are some negative reviews about getting a bad bracket, though most have an update saying the seller made it right. Has anyone bought this brand?

Quality is good and I would recommend just getting oem... you can buy them separate or else as a kit... separate was cheaper so thats what I did78753740ba835fe3cfb1e0f15be6a5a5.jpg3260dfb6f83823c9062306ec7447641a.jpg

That is a great price. Got a link? The only places I can find OEM they are over $400 for the pair.

megacitymopar.com located in Toronto, Ontario has a good price for the tow hooks. When I ordered my tow hooks they were shipped the same day. The tow hooks are heavy, prepare for sticker shock for the shipping charges though.

I called the parts department at Scarborotown. They do have them for the price pictured above. But, they do not ship to the states. The Motorcitychrysler site says they don't ship to the states. The parts guy at Scarborotown said the hook parts used to be $300 a piece until last May when they dropped to $100 a piece retail. They have them on discount for $72. He said he would have expected the price to have made a similar drop in the U.S.

My local dealer has the same parts (55398284AA & ...5AA) for $300 a piece in central VA. I called and the said the hooks used to be a kit that was $153 for both hooks and the bolts. But now you can only buy the parts individually and it all adds up to over $600. He claims the price difference vs the Canada shop is all the U.S. taxes. I have a hard time believing there are $225 of taxes on a $75 item. I think he is full of ****.

That's ****** brutal.... Jesus for once us Canadians are not getting the **** end of the stick on pricing... but ya for me seperate vs kit was like a 30 dollar difference after tax.
Wish I could help you another way

It seems the kit part # is 82210967 and includes both hooks and bolts. I searched for that on a local dealer site (not the same dealer as I called earlier today). The kit is listed as available for sale at this other dealer. It is is $175 for just the parts or $220 installed. I assume they cut out the bumper panel instead of installing pre-cut panels. Anyway, I think that kit is a package that is no longer produced. I plan to drive down to this other dealer tomorrow. I really hope they have it. It really shows how arbitrary part pricing is though. Why would Ram increase the price so much?

If you do some research you can probably find a Canada to US freight forwarding company. You can have the dealer ship the tow hooks to the freight forwarders Canadian address then they clear it across the border and ship it from the US side to your address. I use a similar service to bring goods in from the US to Canada all the time. The prices are very reasonable and its better than paying $300 US/towhook.
