Turbo oil accumulator... Been around since turbos. Would supply turbo bearings with oil pressure after engine shut off to prevent oil "coking" in the hot bearings.

Wonder why the guy in the story didn't peruse a dry sump system, instead.

The way i read it,it doesn't sound like there's any after market oil pans available for that application,so i'm guessing it's the same with a dry sump set-up,it'd probably be a custom fab set-up,and that might be over their budget.

I have used Accusumps on my muscle cars for many years. They often sit for weeks at a time. Knowing that the vast majority of engine wear happens at cold start, I use the Accusump as a preluber to prevent dry start ups. I don't hit the key to crank until I have oil pressure on the gauge. So, there are lots of applications for accumulators.
