Hey All,

Just had my 06 hemi throw me the P0158 and P0004 P codes. I know this is most likely related to the O2 sensor that can be replaced, but it had me wondering about the slight exhaust leak I'm hearing from it. Noticeable on a cold start but gets better as the engine warms up.

Wanted to ask if anyone had had any experience replacing the exhaust mainfolds(know its a pain in the butt with the bolts shearing off) or if anyone has gone and went ahead and replaced them with some shorty headers that have lasted longer.

If you are asking and thinking of performance gains, not likely to realize much. The stock manifolds do already flow very well. You are probably best off to stay with them and just do the new bolts and gaskets. Saves you from a whole bunch of fit-up mods and adjustments that get time consuming and frustrating really fast.

As for those codes. Do not be too quick to condemn the sensors. "Do not shoot the messenger" (O2). While O2 sensors do fail when they get old. First look for the possible causes of the conditions that the codes are indicating. For example, you may have an injector that is dirty or failing that is sticking open, a cylinder that is misfiring (coil / spark plug) which is dumping raw fuel, or event a poisoned bad catalytic. Do some diagnostics to zero in on the cause before knocking the sensors.

Hope that helps!

If you decide to change the manifold bolts, first thing you do is lock the drill and the drill bits in in the bottom drawer and give the key to a stranger.
Get out the mig welder or get a friend with one, that is the only way to safely remove a broken exhaust bolt.

Does anyone have a brand that you would recommend getting for long tube? I have already bought two shorty headers that didnt fit or almost fit because they were hitting the frame even though they were for the truck. I did head gaskets on the truck and got rid of the manifolds because they were cracked and i thought it wouldnt be this hard to find headers that would actually fit. I have a 2500 so i think the frames are closer together than the 1500's?
