Hey all, I did a dumb, and now I Need the help of the big brain AlfaOBD wizards.
2018 1500, AlfaOBD, and the security bypass cable that is recomended. I've successfully made some changes, global down, LED lights, all doors unlock on 1 push etc. But I've noticed my rear view and side mirrors have lost the auto dim function. I tried reseting to stock configuration, but my file was blank, hence the "dumb". The uconnect still shows the auto dim button, but it is not selectable. Can someone take pity on this old fool, and help me regain this feature?
Thanks in advance

I'd start with checking VehConfig 3 for the electrochromic mirror value, make sure you didn't accidentally tell the truck you took the mirrors out, and in Radio and Connectivity, make sure the button is present.

There is also one in Cust.Prog.Features: EC Mirror Auto-Dimming Enabled.

(I have an '18, but I'm not in my truck, so I can't really check the settings myself, but just trying to think of where the options should be.)

First, thank you to 04fxdwgi for sending his file for review. It was so long, I printed out in is entirety and checked line by line. I couldn't find anything different, aside from a couple options his truck has that I don't. I was thinking it was hardware and not software, but now PaleFlyer has given me some things to look for tonight. I will report tomorrow

PaleFlyer, then you again for your suggestions. Everything was set as it should be, so it didn't fix the issue. AlfaOBD did show a fault code, U0213, lost communication with mirror module. I saw on this forum a link to a site for troubleshooting the U0213 so that's my next step. If anyone has any other suggestions in the mean time, please share, this is driving me nuts

Update: I went and took another look this morning, and now the radio softkey for auto dim is missing, replaced with display off softkey.

Update: I went and took another look this morning, and now the radio softkey for auto dim is missing, replaced with display off softkey.
The radio does tend to take a bit of time, as well as a "shutdown" (which is seemingly truck OFF, and the driver door open, close, and then some time.)

When my battery died, and the Autozone idiot I let replace it "bumped" the power a couple times when he was connecting it, it took a couple DAYS for the radio to actually FULLY re-adapt to my truck. It kept setting itself to I guess an express, as it had basically no options, and slowly populated as I drove each time.

But once you get the mirror controller talking properly again, the radio should re-adapt in a couple days.

Or you may need to pull power to the radio (There is a fuse, but I don't know which one) that you can pull, wait 5-10 minutes, then replace, and the radio should "rescan". (I didn't have the auto dimmer mirror button from the RECALL (factory installed the wrong mirror in my Rebel) until the battery replacement got the radio to FINALLY re-sync with the BCM).

Which was like 3 YEARS where I had ZERO control over my mirror. Luckily it was set to "ON", but... AlfaOBD settings do seem to apply much faster than the dealer option FYI.

OK another update. I went through the file provided by 04fxdwgi, multiple times. I ended up printing out the entire file so I could make sure I Wasn't missing anything. I checked settings provided by PaleFlyer. Nothing was working. I have the icon on the uconnect, but tapping it does nothing. I then thought perhaps AlfaOBD doesn't like making more than one change, so reset to my own backup, made after I lost the ability to dim, and the next day made 1 change per day to match 04fxdwgi file. Still no go. I'm thinking I might have to have the stealership reset the BCM to stock, AFTER removing my security bypass of course. Any last minute suggestions before I take the nuclear option?

Electrochromatic mirror is back to working. After trying absolutely everything alfaOBD related, giving up, trying again, for months, I decided it had to be in the wiring. Some time back I popped the mirror cover back portion off to write up my dash cam. I was thinking that maybe I stressed the mirror connector, but that was all good too.
Finally decided to check wiring at the fuse box. I pulled it up, because when I wired my running lights, I attempted to tap into the wiring underneath, for a cleaner install. I hate fuse taps. We I messed up the wiring to fuse F66, Sunroof & something. Well I don't have a sunroof, so my dumba$$ thought that would be best to screw with. The Sunroof & something was the fuse for the mirror dimmer. Good gawd, not my proudest moment. Wiring fixed, turn on truck and mirror dimmer soft key was lit up red.
No need to roast me on this, my wife has been ribbing me all day.

We all do it, sometimes our common sense and logic get squelched by our panic thus inducing confusion. My Dad taught me not to do that, he said to step back, put yourself on the moon, and take a broad look at the problem or sleep on it to quiet the racing confusion in your head. That usually works except sometimes the panic wins and I forget my Dad's advice.

Okay another update.
First, I am a firm believe that when something goes wrong, to look at the last thing you touched. That was why I was hung up on thinking it was alfaobd, because when I noticed the mirror, I had spent a couple days making changes. Turns out it was the thing before that that effectively broke the dimming mirror. Now it works, but not entirely. If I use the soft key to turn it on, it dims the mirror, and stays dim. If I turn it off with the soft key, it stays bright as in daytime mode. I do not have a hard key, or switch to off on.
I've gone through just about every setting in alfaobd, and everything to do with auto dimming is active. I've looked through all the uconnect settings, and other then the main softkey to turn on dimming, I can find nothing else. My build sheet does show I has autodimming from the dealer. Can anyone shed light on this newest twist?

Check in Cust.Set.Menu 1 to see if Auto High Beam CSM Present: is switched to "YES". That puts it on the Uconnect options screen.

Tip: Before doing anything with AlfaOBD, back up your configuration. Then save it as a PDF and with that, you can search the config file with adobe PDF for any keywords. The auto dim headlights have like 9 different references in the configuration for on / off or enable options.

Does your mirror have the "bulge" under it? My 2018 was supposed to have the electro chromatic, and auto-dimming and whatever, but I didn't for about 2 years, as the factory screwed up, and put the "base" mirror in. They did a recall, and put in the auto-dimmer mirror. It has the bulge under it like the auto-high-beam mirror, but without the camera lens on the front.

IE I had something like this: https://store.mopar.com/oem-parts/mopar-inside-rear-view-mirror-57010393ac
But I should have had this: https://store.mopar.com/oem-parts/mopar-inside-rear-view-mirror-68342283aa (the "drawing" like pic towards the bottom of the pictures shows what I mean) - This is what I got with the Recall, and this enabled the AutoDimming to work.

The links I put in are for example only, I know one of them is for the 5th gens, not 4th gens.

And if you do (which it sounds like you do), you might want to try using the "battery" (second button on the bottom of the app) icon in AlfaOBD, and read system status, see if you can find the feedback from the dimmer sensor. I don't know where it is in the status info, but I used that when I was fighting the windshield temp/humidity sensor being dead to confirm what the replacement was doing/reading, and I know it shows a lot of sensor values.

ISSUE RESOLVED.
First, thank you all for your suggestions. Even though I do not have dimming highbeams, I did try going in and changing the CSM to present, no change. But it was about that same time I started noticing an improvement in the dimming mirror. The first day or so it was either on(dimmed) or off. I cycled it many times, using a bright flashlight to try to trigger it, and at night I cycled many times, again using bright light to try to elicit a change. This morning I started the truck, and in my dark driveway, I could see it the mirror, and on the way to work it world dim when hit by headlights, and return to normal afterwards.
I wonder if it had to recalibrate itself, or is it another case or having to go through so many power cycles before fully functioning.
