I have searched and searched (I hope) before I posted this question because I couldn’t find exact answer.

I have a 2016 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins. Replaced the coolant reservoir and in the process lost about 2.5 gallons of coolant so needing to top off. Everything that came out is orange, to my eye at least. Researching I see that MS1206 (now 90032) is the Mopar coolant spec. From what I’m seeing this tend to be purple and everything else I read said no mixing. Nothing orange (OAT) at the general parts store stay the same specs.

Question is can I mix that OEM coolant with what’s in there, is there something at the parts store I’m missing, or do I just need to top off and have system flushed ? I still have to add something to get it to the dealership. Thanks !

The OEM Purple Kool-aid has a well known quirk of changing from purple to an orangish-rose color over time.
If you don't know how old the coolant is, it's probably a good idea to do a flush and fill with new coolant.

So what should I fill it with until I can get the flush done ? I had recently used Peak O.A.T. as is specifically listed 2013+ Ram on the packing, that has since changed. Within the past few months

Any OAT coolant will work, if you just need to drive the truck to somewhere to work on it you could just use water.
The big issue with mixing the purple Mopar coolant with other colors is the color will usually turn a puke brown.

I going to change my coolant out with Cummins PGXL OAT it’s way cheaper than Mopar and easier to obtain here in Australia. No do not mix different colored coolants at all. Drain flush with the heater On any rust fill with Cummins restore for 1hr and flush. You can clean the reservoir a video is available on YouTube and makes it turn Brand New.

If you are only needing to get by for a short time, live in an above freezing climate and only lost the coolant in the reservoir I would just add distilled water back until you flush and replace the required coolant. Your system holds around 8 gallons. You would have only lost about 2 gallons changing the reservoir. The dilution of the 6 gallons left with distilled water will still protect engine components but will lose it's freeze point.

No doubt this will create a stir among some members, but Prestone sells a universal coolant, sold everywhere for about $10.

They claim you can mix it with any coolant. If you want to be a bit cautious, you could do a flush and then go back with the Prestone universal. Prestone backs it so you'll have a warranty with them if you want to try to save money on the coolant.

I already know that some on this forum will say not to do it, not worth the risk and all that. They might even be right, but on the other hand you'd have an old line multi-million dollar company backing you.

As always, you'll get dozens of opinions, especially from those who haven't tried it.

I would read the fine print from that billion-dollar company warranty. They have a fairly large legal department.
